Here in CT there are mom and pop Italian food places all over the place. Pizza and grinder shops, not chain shops.

For me my favorite ethic food would not be Italian though because I am not Italian and didn't have that kind of food growing up. Mine would be English food, especially Yorkshire pudding or mince pie. I can't buy my ethnic (if you can call it that) food in this country but I can make it because Yorkshire pudding is basically like a popover and mince pie, you can buy jarred mincemeat and put it into a pie shell.

Whenever I make Yorkshire pudding it flops so I'll stick to popovers, which are similar and they are American. We have a popover shop in the next town if I want to drive out and get some. Mince pies you have to make yourself because the ones from the store just taste fake and are too sweet. Cornish pasties are English too but I have to make them myself. That's my favorite food.

I like more curry type foods too but only if they are not very spicy.

Don't have one favorite, but several:

* Authentic Italian (from a restaurant owned and operated by Italians, not from a chain)
* Authentic French
* Middle Eastern
* Greek
* Thai
* Vietnamese

I think it's possible you've never had authentic Italian. It's very hard to find it in cities that have never had sizeable Italian immigrant populations.

I found this choice amusing: "Good old American food (example: Outback)"

A good old American restaurant with an Australian theme.

I can enjoy almost all of the different ethnic foods since I love all good properly prepared foods.

The one with the most variety in my mind would be Italianand others that I truly love would be, Indian, Korean, Greek/Mediterranean, Thai, Japanese and Brazilian/Portuguese while my least favorite would be Jewish foods.
