We ALWAYS have ketchup because I eat it with almost everything, we don't keep soy sauce on hand if I do use it, it's for a recipe and I have to buy a bottle.
love, love, love soy sauce! i like ketchup too but it depends on what we're eating (chicken/fish=soy sauce) french fries=ketchup...i don't really like ketchup on any meat. I prefer soy sauce or bbq!
Ketchup, Soy sauce, Hoisin, Worchestershire, Cooking sherry, Vidalia Onion Dressing,chicken and beef buillion and broth, BBQ sauce, Knorr, Mustard(dry, regular, spicy brown) ,and Smoke...they are all regular staples in my pantry for cooking!
I thought we were talking about soy sauce and ketchup...
I do use a wide variety of other sauces, dressings, spices and herbs.
Actually it makes me always wonder when I read ingredients list of commercially prepared food - in a country that has access to all kinds of spices, the most popular seasonings used to flavor food is salt, pepper, sometimes garlic. That's it!
If you guys/gals want better flavoring and taste, get Maggi sauce. Much better! There are some imitations out there. Get the one from France or Switzerland if you can. Once you go Maggi, you will never go Kikkoman!

^I'll probably look for that next time I go out. I like soy sauce mostly for rice at Asian Restaurants and for my veggies at home. I hate eating watery veggies with no flavor, some lemon and soy sauce save it quickly.
Yeah I agree. My home has like.. probably 2 different kinds but it's always the same brand. Just curious, is there a difference between "Asian" soy sauce brand and "American" soy sauce brand? I do realize that "American" brand taste a lot different than "Asian" brands. More healthier????
I don't know about the healthier part, but the soy sauce my Chinese friends bring me back from China certainly tastes better than American made. Same goes for the Pearl River Bridge brand I buy whenever I see it.
I always have Heinz ketchup, brown mustard, and light Miracle Whip. Right now I have organic soy sauce (good price), but prefer to get the low-sodium variety.
Out in California most household do have a bottle of soy sauce in the fridge and I image a lot of the other cosmopolitan places do as well but I doubt it is that common in the less cosmopolitan places.
