It only has to be heated until hot--no need to "cook" it! It's best when it's cooked for the shortest time possible, to keep that "snap" in the corn kernel!

I love it slightly snappy, too! I put the ears on a large glass tray. Add about 1/4 c. water cover with plastic wrap and microwave for about 7 minutes (for 4 ears). Let stand for about 4-5 minutes. Uncover and slather with butter. Ummmmm....good! Much better than boiling IMHO.

Don't shuck it! Put it in the microwave as is! 3-4 minutes for 1 ear, 5-6 for 2. The shucks seal the flavor in, When it's done the silks come out easy. A little salt and butter and you're ready to go!

I used to work on the highway crew. Thought they were crazy when they first told me about it, but stick some ears of corn in hot blacktop (usually around 350 when dumped in the truck, until you get to the job site. The heat cooks the corn perfectly and the shucks keep the oil from getting in. Thank goodness for squeeze margarine! lol

Default Steaming is best!

I agree with the others about steaming over boiling -- steaming retains much better flavor and texture. For those of you who boil your corn, try steaming it the next time and see what a difference it makes!

GIGO is a computer acronym for "Garbage IN Garbage Out".

See item 1099 on page 78 for food values of fresh corn.

All I can add is don't be one of those misguided people who shuck their corn at the grocery store. The husk keeps the corn fresh until you cook it.

This is good to know! I usually pull back enough to see that I am getting a good ear of corn but then save the rest of the shucking for dinner prep time.

I agree. Don't shuck it!

This is the best and the easiest Microwave way. Natural moisture from the corn silks steam the corn. No need to add water!
