i used to love the little brownie when i was a kid!
Same here! I would get more excited about that little brownie than seeing a whole pan of mom's homemade brownies. Guess it went with the "excitement" of having a tv dinner. The thinking of a kid lol.
Ate Banquet and Swanson (fried chicken, salisbury steak, meatloaf, turkey, Mexican, or fish filet) growing up as a child. My mother worked late and often left TV dinners in the freezer for us, so that we could have dinner before my father came home from work. In college, I switched to more "premium" brand such as Prego and Marie Callendar's.
Haven't even thought of buying one in maybe 50 years. In the 50s and early 60s we would have them once in awhile when spoiled brat was traveling. The kids liked them more than I did. I hear Marie Calendars are pretty good. We do eat frozen pizza so I guess I can't say we never eat frozen meals.
As a little kid in the 1960's TV dinners were pretty much every Tuesday night. Dad had dinner at Rotary Club. My sister and I had fine TV dinner dining. I recall the Thanksgiving dinner one, fried chicken, and meat loaf. Salisbury Steak was nasty.
Marie Callendar used to be good, but not so much anymore. And I agree that back in the day, when TV dinners came in molded aluminum containers, they were much better than they are now.
I think Stouffer's does the best job at TV dinners and other foods; the quality seems to be better than other brands. Banquet is just gross.
In the 80s I used to buy Le Menu and they were actually good, but I don't think they make those anymore.
