Does the U.S. buy most of its meat domestically or internationally?

Also do the jews have their own farms for their kosher meats?

Most of the meat consumed in the US is raised here. It is a pretty horrible business and is heavily subsidized by the taxpayers through huge corn and soy subsidies which is the main feed for beef on the feedlots. Recent studies are showing that it is the corn connection in combination with all the other practices like excessive antibiotics, growth hormones etc. that has caused the increases in heart disease, cancer and other modern ailments in the US and other countries that follow our lead on factory production of meats.

Chickens spend their whole miserable short lives in crowded conditions, and are fed corn and other animal waste. Their beaks are cut off to prevent them from hurting themselves or other chickens. Pigs are also a miserable lot, with their tails "docked" to prevent the other pigs from chewing on them.

Read The Omnivore's Dilemma, Food Politics, Fast Food Nation or Real Food or any number of books that report on the corporate meat we all eat. You may want ot find a local, non supermarket provider instead.

Kosher beef is from the front half of the steer, but it does not have to come from "Jewish" farms. The slaughter and processing of the animals requires special care and is supervised by a Rabbi.
