O I was just teasing a bit - it's a recipe for the fish cooked in vinegar (soused)... it's actually very nice, esp if you like mackerel and pickled things!

Yes I think so - esp the strong oily fishyness of mackerel. I don't think it smells so bad when it's baked rather than fried/broiled...

There are different kinds of mackerel too. I have always liked the Spanish mackerel fried. Better smoked...King mackerel are said to have high levels of mercury...Cero (spelling?) mackerel are supposedly to oily to eat. Never had any so no opinion on them...Mackerel are up there with salmon for blood lipid lowering. It's the oil that does the good things for us...

I love 'em bbq'd, really simple, straight over the fire with salt and lemon. We go fishing for them off the pier at Brighton (UK) in the summer, the sea sparkles with them and they practically leap into the boat. We had so many loaded up in the fridge last time I had to hold the fridge door shut with the fire extinguisher!

OK, for dinner tonight I am making grilled Sierra Mackeral filets from the Baja Peninsula in Mexico (caught by a friend), soaked in water all day to lessen the "mackeral taste" and rolled in rosemary/garlic salt/pepper rub, with lightly stir-fried bok choy with garlic and a tiny bit of vegetable oil, served with long grain steamed rice. It's a brain food and good for ya eatin' tonight!

Lots of good eating here again today, as always - even after a good supper, I find myself salivating at the descriptions of all your wonderful dinners! Wonderful problem to have, in the company of a wonderful bunch o' good friends.

skbs, I think it's time you gave up on that lion's den over in Parenting and just stay here where folks are human and act it. Most of us are parents, those who aren't have generous amounts of empathy and compassion, and nobody here is going to flame you over your kids or your parenting style. Some people come to forums like CD just for the sake of picking fights and being jerks, and the best thing you can do with them is to ignore them and leave them in their misery. Hang out with the human beings, and leave the trolls under the bridge where they belong.

And on that topic, I've found nice folks in the books sub-forum of Entertainment, in Education (though there are a few there that I avoid), in Pets (I browse the cats subforum, as our current four-legged family member is of the feline persuasion) and some in Working. I got some excellent advice and help on a home repair question in the House forum. I have heard from several folks that Relationships is a viper's nest, and you are not the first person who has talked about trolls in Parenting as well. Life is too short to waste emotional energy on jerks, so spend your time with like-minded folks who value you for who you are rather than using you as a target for their vitriol.

update on dinner. DH and both sons gave it a two thumbs up.

I did change it around....

for the bread crumbs, I used Italian bread crumbs and put some sour cream into the ranch dressing.

It came out looking picture perfect and the taste was wonderful, a keeper they said!
