Not real hip on all the "inventive" menus I've seen recently. People seem to be getting carried away with the concept.

The first one.

I can prepare traditional foods at home. When I eat out, I want to eat something I don't make.

Ditto for me. When I eat out I choose things that I don't know how to cook or I know are more trouble than I'm willing to expend. And I'm willing to pay extra for restaurants that are beautiful and have good service. It's really nice to dine in an atmosphere that makes one feel special.

Both. I love going to a high-end, classy restaurant with white table cloths, low lighting, comfy seating, and great food whether the menu is traditional or not--haven't eaten in a restaurant like that in years! Because my hubby and I love sushi we end up in at our favorite sushi restaurant on uncomfortable chairs at the sushi bar.

Choice #2

I would rather have a normal ordinary dish perfectly prepared than "creative" cuisine.

I just completed a phenomenal cup of Posole. My only regret was eating the rest of the meal which was very pedestrian.

?

Assume in both cases price, ambience, etc. are all comparable

What are you considering traditional? Diner food? Escoffier's menu? Grandma's cooking?

Why wouldn't ALL items served be impeccably prepared?

Mexican and Seafood.

I eat more fish & chicken these days. And these type restaurants really get my attention the most.

Choice #1.

Tough decision. Both are great. If the food is AMAZING.. I will take both options!

Wish I was a food critic. Paid to eat at nice ambient restaurants with 5-star Michelin quality food? OMG!!
