good post!!

a couple months ago I was on a work project out of state and at night- we could eat anywhere, we went to a new restaurant every night -not chains
for ten nights away from home we went to different nice restaurants - I tried some new dishes, and most were good, but the best tasting was of course what I already liked prepared well.

I was on the look out for a few of my all-time favorites, which sadly, I was disappointed- not one battered fried clam on any menu- even at the seafood restaurants

I did notice many many pasta based selections for 30.00 or more per plate - quite the money-makers, no matter how pretty they made the dish sound

Unfortunately in my area not all those words could be used in the same sentence.

I'll have to go with 2 because I just discovered sushi recently and have fallen in love with it. Although where I'm from it could not be considered traditional food.

Wow, you eat out a lot! I go out to eat once a week.

But I agree with you, as a cook I will only pay for food somewhere else if it's hard to make, hard to get or messy as heck.

?

Assume in both cases price, ambience, etc. are all comparable

Choice two, all the way.

One tip. Never eat fried clams at a place more than an hour way from the coast. You will NOT be satisfied with it.

People from around the Chesapeake should never try a crab cake when they are on the road. You are going to be very disappointed as you will either get a crab cake with lots of filler OR a crab cake with inferior crab meat.
Enjoy the good stuff while at home. Enjoy the local favorites when on the road.

Choice 2. I am not adventurous at all when it comes to food.

Choice one for us. Although Montana is a fantastic place to live, dining choices are kinda limited. Lot's of GREAT steak places, but hardly any good non-American style fare.

So when we go out we like to go have something different. Often we drive 1.5 hours to Bozeman just for a different dining experience. I'll also crawl a mile on naked knee over broken glass for really good seafood. I'm planning on a winter trip to Seattle just for that!
