Thankfully the few places I like for fried fish sandwiches doesn't even have cheese on the premises. I know I hear it when I am standing there, "What do you mean you have no cheese?!?!?" from the person ordering next to me.
I grew up with a brother that hated cheese and I can't tell you how many times they mishear hear PLAIN. NO CHEESE PLEASE. Hold the cheese. Just plain!
They mishear it a lot. I don't even like cheeseburgers, if I order a Big Mac I have to get it without cheese. I know as soon as they hand me the bag if it has cheese, because it smells like a dirty butt. .

My dad doesn't eat cheese, ever. If he orders fast food, he emphasizes PLAIN. Multiple times. He doesn't ever say "No cheese," or "hold the cheese, " or even mention the word "cheese" at all, because ff workers tend to hear "blahblahblahCHEESEblahblah," and add cheese.

Still gets screwups, but not as many.
That doesn't work either, we get a burger plain WITH cheese. They can't comprehend that plain means NOTHING, they think plain means just burger and cheese and nothing else.
This thread made me so hungry, went out and got a Filet O Fish from mickey Deez.
Cheers!
