Some of you are fancy! I like to indulge in something not too good for me. I'm thinking baked chips slathered in cheese. If I get gluten free, it's just the carbs I shouldn't eat. Though nacho cheese sounds like an idea. I'll probably have a soda too.

Vol au vent with ragout fin of veal and mushrooms. It was the go to dinner with marche salad and a good Riesling until mother decided to make changes. Once!
Not sure about what big band I can find for the appropriate back ground.
New Years day I'll make pork & kraut for good luck as usual. Mashed potatoes, too. I have everything but taters.
Just had traditional spiral sliced, glazed ham, potatoes, & veggie Christmas dinner with chocolate/mint cake for dessert with champagne...was tasty.
Elderly mom is Polish...always does the sauerkraut thing New Years Day for good luck as well. Not sure if that is a strictly Polish or mainly Eastern European thing or not? Looks like it is a big German tradition as well. https://wildbrine.com/sauerkraut-new-years-day/

When the relatives used to get together to celebrate we always had an hors d' oeurvres meal with shrimp cocktail. After the kids left home DH and I would splurge with steak and lobster or something special at home.
We learned pretty fast to stay out of restaurants on this evening. Their menu is usually limited and served assembly line style and people can be an irritation.
Now, in retirement, a meal like Christmas will be enough celebrating for us for a while. Daughter's friend has a pre-Christmas birthday and DH's is right after Christmas and we aren't even going to celebrate those until the end of the first week in January. Don't want to have too much fun. LOL
By then we should be ready for treats again and hve decided to make our hors d' oeurvres dinner.

Reading this causes me to want to play The Pennsylvania Polka. I grew up in Northeastern PA surrounded by people eating pork and sauerkraut on the 1st. Mom was an English WWII bride so we didn't do that. The menu was different every year.
If Santa is good to me and I get a grill, never mind. Wife says that won't happen. Not about to go out in a crown. I hate crowds even without a pandemic. Even not even if not flu season. I think it will be fresh black eye peas with a smoked ham hock, mustard greens, rosemary Yukon gold potatoes oven roasted, with whole berry cranberry sauce.
A very high end pellet smoker is coming but not in time for New Years so tomorrow we get the black eyes and ham hocks. A son has sold his house and has no place to keep his pellet smoker and it is part of my inheritance. Let the food fun begin.
Same as every year. Blackeye peas, rice, collard greens, ham and cornbread.
It's just me the last few years but I have plenty of leftovers.
Pretty much this. Been the classic New Year's meal since I was a little kid. I'll change up Christmas Dinner each year, but not the New Year's blackeyes and greens.
Sauerkraut, Pork Sausage and Potatoes on New Years Day. I would pass on it BUT January 1st is her birthday.
