I took my friend out for her birthday. She and I are eating buddies. I told her I finally found a place that cooks almost as good as my dad. There is obviously a language barrier as I was trying to alert the restaurant of our arrival. I specifically wanted a dish that is like a Chinese casserole. It is pork belly (or Chinese fatty bacon) with taro root. I intonations must be a smidge off and finally after about 10 minutes, I got my request across.
Since you understand my "eating habits" - I think you would love this. The bacon is first pan fried to make a crust and then steamed with the taro root and nappa. The pork belly becomes unctuous. It's so good!
Stop it this minute , this is becoming indecent !
Me, me , pick me as an eating Buddy !
I will now sit by the post box waiting for my delivery of home-made goodies. Thank you .
In a weak moment I ordered a new cookbook (Like I don't have a hundred already that I never use) "Gooseberry Patch... something or other", but it seems to be a little overly simplistic for an experienced cook. I'll probably pass it on to a DIL. Neither DIL really cooks much, so this is just their speed.
Anyway, I made their Mexican Lasagna tonight, which looks really good, but the can of mild enchilada sauce I bought for it sure tastes super-hot to me, so I hope DH and I can eat it. News at 11:00.
I have quite a few of the Goosberry Patch cookbooks, they are pretty simple in their content. I do like them for some of the ideas they give ,a few of their holdiay ones (I like HOme for the Holidays) has some really nice decorating and homeade gift ideas in them as well as their recipes.
I have one that I like to use in the Summer called "For Bees & Me" and it has great garden ideas,etc... great recipe for Lemon/Blueberry bread too! I just made it today.
They do tend to repeat themselves from book to book w/their recipes but have found some decent ,easy ones to make!
After a conversation with me wife, it will be BLT oriented. Most likely a sandwich and a salad.
good time of year for BLT's! Just came home from the farmers market in Macintosh with some gorgeous local tomatoes, may have to make some for my bunch tomorrow!
I have my pork chops in an oven roaster pan...and I added two chicken thighs (bone in) to make sure there's enough....I put a mixture of chopped onion, grn pepper, celery, carrot, and tomato sauce, dijon mustard and worchestershire sauce, vinegar and brown sugar over it and put in the oven....will make rice to go with it.
Folks - just wanted to say I miss you all! Been at my mom's longer than expected. I've been checking CD lately but haven't made it over here. Will be here another week and then hope to get back to regular meal times with you peeps Might check in again before I'm back at my place. Haven't caught up here but hope all y'all are doing just grand!
Oh and Highlands - got your note and will try to remember to post the orzo chicken asiago recipe. It's really easy - from Cooking Light - but I spiffed it up some cause it was sooo plain and boiled originally.
Tonight is leftover Chinese delivery. Leftovers are my favorite!
I have chicken wings in the roasting in the oven. I marinated them with multiple Chinese sauces (soy sauce, mushroom sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, etc...) I will stir fry some fuzzy melon to go with it. Fuzzy Melon - Glossary of Chinese Ingredients and Cooking Terms
I have some steamed rice too. Have a great weekend everyone!!!
I will now sit by the post box waiting for my delivery of home-made goodies. Thank you .
