Health Insurance (does not include dental etc)
If you work as a public teacher in Lee county you would pay 27,792 per year for the high family plan and 13,668 per year for the low plan. So much for teachers having lavish benefits eh? what a joke that school districts hand out chips and medicaid info to teacher hires with master's degrees! the message florida sends to teachers: Come to our cities, educate and care for our children, even though you won't be able to take care of your children. sickening and it was just made worse. Are you people aware that teachers have to pay that much for insurance? and do you have a problem with that?

Did you read the fine print? Sounds like an awesome deal to me!

(quote) The District gives every eligible employee benefit bank dollars to apply towards their medical insurance. The amount is $6,372 annually. So....about $500 a month.

AND

(quote) You will receive $265.50 in Flex Credits each pay period to apply toward the purchase. So, Another $515 a month.

I pay $400/ mo for a high deductible ($10k) policy for my son and I. I pay 100% until I meet the deductible, so it's worthless really. My husband is covered through his work, but it would have cost $795/ mo for my son and I to be added to his policy.

the total amount they pay towards employee health care is 6372. i subtracted that from my figures. the so called flex is the 6372. 265.50x24 pay periods equals 6372. like i said the two figures i posted were AFTER i subtracted the district payment...the amounts i posted in the op are the NET cost to the employee

As a school employee -

It is 265.00 per pay period. Nothing more. My wife and I are both working for the school district where we both have our own policies. When we first started, we had to do the Employee/Spouse for a couple of months - we took it out of mine since I was receiving the benefits first. Let's just say I was making less than 300 per pay period (get paid on the 15th and 30th)

Its not the worst of insurance but its not like it's a Cadillac plan either.

On the cheapest plan, a family plan would cost 852.00 a month... and thats not including dental and vision (though those tend to be cheaper).

Sounds like Citizen was trying to sandbag us to get a little sympathy for teachers.

If your figures are correct then they are paying 34,000.00 for health insurance?
May be they need to look for a new plan, sounds a little fishy to me.

equal rights, that is the high plan...i am sure no teachers are on that... still the 'cheap plan' is almost 14k a back breaking portion of their pay
