He'll be responsible for losing that money that will have to come from taxpayers pockets.
I think people will remember that.
I saw him make the speech on TV and it was chilling to see the uniform being used in that way. Just plain wrong.
Well of course it is up to the judges.

I guess I am not that sensitive because it didn't move me one way or the other seeing him in his uniform. I didn't see it as wrong at all.

Or perhaps you mean "rednecks" as in "ignorant." (?)

I also feel like Florida (like you had mentioned above) does attract a lot of people that you dont necessarily want living in FL (a lot of sex offenders and other criminals seem to be drawn to FL), along with a lot of unhappy people, grumpy, and sometimes just rude people from the Northeast (a large portion). I feel like FL still has a lot of good people here, but at times, you just have to wonder how long FL is going to keep the good folks happy enough to stay put (weather/hurricanes, crime, taxes, economy, rude people, terrible drivers, and the oppressive summer heat are all examples).
Yeah, You've got it right. I didn't mean to include EVERYONE in the state into what I wrote because I too have known very good people in Florida but like the saying goes " A rotten Apple spoils the bunch " Everyone has different experiences, Mine were bad.

I think the things you mentioned " (weather/hurricanes, crime, taxes, economy, rude people, terrible drivers, and the oppressive summer heat are all examples " Are all reasons why people are fleeing or will soon be fleeing the state. I was lucky enough to get out before the whole damn thing crumbled away.

If there is racism in Lee County, it would probably be certain sections of Fort Myers. It will definitely in ALL of Lehigh Acres, guaranteed of that. Cape Coral is probably the area of Lee County that you wouldn't see racism in.

Some people just will never get it. What that sheriff did was ugly and divisive and he did it in uniform. Here is a brief, well-written article about why we have a problem in America when we allow this type of hate speech: t r u t h o u t | John Lewis: McCain Sows Hatrednot so subtle

I pulled statistics for 2002 (the most recent I could find) for hate crimes in Fla.
Lee County had 3 in the time frame compared to some counties that were in the 40's and 50's.
I would say this would be a decent indicator of the level of racism there.

Folks,
Here is an easy solution;

1) post in this thread if you are speaking about Lee County.

2) Any post about the Lee county sheriff, Senator Obama, etc should be posted in THIS thread;

There you go......you can have your cake and eat it too......

"I am just wondering if Lee County is a particularly racist area."

There is anti black racism in Florida and there is anti white racism in Florida.

The anti-white racism is centered in the bigger cities where it is manifested in black on white violent crime.

The anti black racism is more subtle. A lot of it is stereotyping blacks based on a fear of black violent crime.

To Moderator:

I personally think that this would be better in the Ft. Myers-Cape Coral sub-forum because that area is Lee County. We might be able to get a better opinion from some of the residents that live in Lee County about this particular topic if it was in that forum. Just a suggestion!

If Florida is so racist, then why is Obama ahead in the polls? It seems like Florida is backing him so maybe race isn't an issue.
