Thanks for all of the input thus far, it has been helpful! Since it seems that where I am working in Hurst makes a difference, I will actually be at Bell (so it looks like that saying Hurst wasn't as descriptive as I could have been).

In terms of areas aside from Fort Worth, i.e. Las Colinas, Bedford, NRH, are the demographics slightly older than Fort Worth or just less densely populated? And within those areas, does anyone have any advice as to apartments to focus on or ones to steer clear of?

I plan on heading out there in early May to take a look at places and get a feel for the area so I may add those locations as places to take a look at.

Thanks again for all the input!

How do you get to 183/Hwy 10 from Las Colinas--the Bush to 183?==that is easy commute--
You can't get to Hwy 10 from 183 itself unless you use a connecting road of some kind
if you were using 114 through Grapevine that is not go great especially with all the construction making things tight

I guess the OP's actual work site can make a difference
If he were working on 183 around the Mall or the new Toll Rd office then I still think it would be better commute from FTW than Irving

from the urban/canal section of Las Colinas, O'Connor to 183W; there's an exit (next one after the 360 exit) for Hwy 10 right off 183; takes you straight to Bell. Easy Peasy. Lots of great rentals in LC:

I hear Lofts of Las Colinas, Canal Side Lofts and renting a condo in Grand Treviso are favorites. This is a link to a listing of several. You should check the area out; very young people live in this area and its only about 20 minutes to Dallas nightlife on wkends. 75039 Apartments for Rent | Apartments in 75039 | IRVING 75039 Apartment Rentals

well - if you're working at Bell and would consider living in FW ... there's the option of taking the TRE (Commuter Train). If you live in Upper West Side of FW it'll be a short walk (or drive .. there's a park and ride) at the T&P Station, and then hop onto TRE to the Hurst/Bell station. Bell Helicopter is just by the TRE station in Hurst.

IMO, your original options would be a good choice. In addition, there are some new apartments on I-10 just west of Bell.
Your original option would put you in the center of all types of activities. You would also be close to I-30, commute on the freeway and travel over to Arlington and Dallas for professional sports or additional entertainment activities.

Living in Sundance and taking the TRE to Bell station would really be a good option--
the schedule says the 7am TRE downtown gets to Bell/Hurst at 716--you can't beat that

I bet Bell would subsidize your monthly pass--
so as long as the station is really close it might be worth considering--maybe they run a shuttle bus to/from when weather is bad--
you might ask about that--

that being said--
if the trip from Las Colinas via car is as easy as Squirl says then Las Colinas would definitely be worth a look as well--and there is DART station going in at Las Colinas fairly soon I think--making it pretty easy to take a train into Dallas on weekends if you want
Las Colinas DART delayed until 2012 or so--there are working stations that are close to Las Colinas

as far as demographics--just from what I know about Bell I think most of the people are probably living in Tarrant county--FTW/Mid Cities/Keller maybe--maybe some in Arlington/Mansfield
I would guess that fewer of them would be in Las Colinas area--so it might be more difficult to do things with people from work after hours
Las Colinas does have YUMs living there as does FTW downtown and So7--there are more families in MidCities but also singles--maybe older ones--like divorced with kids--

IF you could wait until you are actually on site to get some first hand info from people it might be worth it--
being in general area of people whom you are more like to be starting friendships and would want to spend time with outside work might make it worthwhile to wait to decide anything

I think you have several viable choices--
of course one thing to be aware of is that apts are showing high occupancy rates now and there are fewer deals to be had--since people ARE moving to this area and many are choosing to rent initially

Craigs list has section for sublets that you might want to check out as well
and there is another website with rentals/sublets but can't post it here

I think taking the TRE to the Bell station is an excellent idea and I know Bell ee's are subsidized for train passes. Super idea. Its a very easy walk from the Bell station to the plant. If you can find an apartment in fort worth you like near a TRE station that's a super winning solution!

there is condo (1/1) listed on Houston for rent
that would be easy walk to TRE I think since it is close to Convention center vs farther north into Sundance
