My family and I are moving very soon due to a new job at NAS Joint reserve base. After reading some of the posts here, i have some ideal about where not to live. I am interested in a rental home, commute not a problem, and of course good schools(elementary/H.S) and low crime area. I have about 4-6weeks after getting to the area to find a place to live. But of course I would like to settle on an area, schools and place to live before I arrive if possible. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

If working at the NAS, i would consider the Westworth Village area of west Fort Worth. I know at least part of that neighborhood is zoned to Burton Hill elementary, which is one of the highest rated elementary schools in Fort Worth as well as Arlington Heights HS, which is one of the best in Fort Worth.

best of luck

Look at Aledo (don't know about getting a home to rent) but they have range of home prices/sizes/subdivisions--retail is growing out that way but best shopping would be inside the Loop at Hulen Mall area probably
schools are pretty good I think but not as excellent as say Carroll or Grapevine Colleyville or the best of FTW ISD like Paschal---still more sports oriented than academic--
weakness is probably hospitals out that way

Azle area would be N on 820 Loop--out by Eagle Mtn Lake--schools are probably not as good as Aledo ones from what I have heard--again variety in home choices--quite a few homes on market for longer periods of time--maybe foreclosures--maybe just slow market-

Inside the loop--in Paschal HS, Daggett elem zone is usually considered best area for FTW ISD -- depends on the neighborhood as far as homes available...
can be pricey...

You could consider Burleson which is s on 35--that is growing area--small town/rural/ag but in past 8-10 years really picking up retail and housing development---has small airport that gets quite a bit of traffic--has nice golf course--older homes can have acre lot or more...newer ones usually back to .25 or so--need to be careful about tract developments and schools...

Yehaw ! ! ! I went to Burton Hill Elementary, ohhhh... in about 1956, second grade. It was like out our back yard and across a field. We left Fort Worth the following summer but I've been back to the old neighborhood to see where it was. It appears to be holding up well.

My dad took his retirement at Carswell, being the reason we left. Oh how I wish we had stayed. Hope you find what you're looking for 'dreamlife'.

Thanks tp you all for your responses. Some of those areas I have never heard before. I think finding a rental home in itself will be the most difficult challenge so far. I will look into all of your suggestions. If any more ideas come to mind, please feel free to share with the class
