We bought a small flat screen 2 years ago to replace an old one that died. We still have 2 "old fashioned" ones thought. A 26" in the family room and a 13" in the guest bedroom. I guess the flat screen looks better, it's the one I watch my DVD's on, but it's not a MUST.
We were all talking about TV's and the fact I still don;t own a flat screen tv everyone thought it was hilarous that in 2010 almost 2011 that I still don;t have a flat screen. Then they made fun of the fact that my biggest TV is only 24 inches.
I guess I'm just committed to sticking to my financial goals and don't feel a upgrade is necessary right now. Anyone situated like me and don't have a flat screen or a TV bigger than 24 inches?
Sadly, your coworkers have their priorities seriously out of whack. Yes, we have a 26" flatscreen that I got on sale a few years ago and two regular TVs. We will simply keep the older ones until they burn out. There is nothing essentially wrong with owning a TV(s). When it becomes the focus of conversation and the basis of personal identity, then it's an issue. My wife and I have no interest or intentions of keeping up with the Joneses.
Don't worry about what others think of you and what you "don't have". There is so much more to life than things.
Continue to stick to your goals of saving and don't allow the nonsense of others to derail you. If anything, use that money to go on a trip. When your "friends" brag about what they saw on their big screens, you can brag about what you experienced in real life. Good luck.
This thread is funny. The coworkers probably forgot about the whole thing five minutes later but the support group for the non-flat screen crowd lives on forever.
I have multiple flat screens and wouldn't have it any other way, but couldn't give a whit what others have and I suspect 98% of the flat screen owners out there are the same. Maybe 2% care because they get all geeky about it, but frankly when anyone can go down and buy one for a few hundred dollars now its not like there is some exclusive club of flat screen owners.
I'm perfectly content with my 10 year old 19 inch. We did get a new flat screen tv. Turns out we needed it since we ended up completely destroying our old 32 inch while attempting to move it upstairs. Cheap plastic.
I believe in using things until the very end, whether its clothes or certain electronics. My cell phone is 3.5 years old and sadly it is the oldest among most people I know.
I would never consider making fun of somebody because they don't have a flat screen TV.....in fact I just had to ask my husband if we had one. It just is like who cares that much.
