How many people here have started one of these? My girlfriend is concerned about the coming calamity and keeps bugging me to invest in one. But I don't know if she's overreacting:
The problem is your garden better be hidden to keep it safe from the hordes of starving people. The best investment right now is land in the middle of nowhere and plenty of guns and ammo to protect yourself and your food. Non-perishable foods would also be a good investment to get you through this next winter.
I've got a weeks worth of soup and Chef Boyardee products. Perhaps it's about time to find a nice safe hiding spot in the ground to prepare for the impending food riots.
Enjoy fresh homegrown vegatables and the satisfaction of self suffiency. If you don't already know how to process and preserve food, learn to. Store you own seeds to grow next year. Repeat sequence every year.
I have a survival garden in a can that I bought because of it's incredably long shelf life. A back up so that if some natural disaster wipes out my own seed bank or if SHTF.
Having a can full of survival seeds is useless if you don't know how to get your hands in the dirt and do something with them..

I spend a lot of time in my basement (rec room), but I lean toward NY strip and cold Miller.

Do you mean for you to hide in the ground or to hide some food?
