I love my Haier portable washer. I can wash a decent sized load or two every night, hang it on a rack in my kitchen next to the heater, and it's all dry by morning. On summer days, I might point the oscillating fan at it, so it doesn't take forever to dry.

As long as you are ok with doing a load every day, you should be able to get by just fine.

I'd rather have free/family time than spend hours at the laundrymat.

I spend one hour per week at the laundromat. I don't call that spending hours there.

Are you doing laundry for five people? My son had an unpleasant experience at the laundromat about a month ago. No, nothing bad happened but it took all afternoon to get his things washed and dried. He needed three washers: one for nasty work clothes (hot water), one for the rest of his clothing and the third for linens (sheets, towels and a blanket). He then needed to use two high capacity dryers. The place was packed and he had to wait for washers/dryers to become available.

We had a full size washer that was made portable with a wheeled platformed built for it to sit & roll on & drain hose that went into the sink.

The laundromat that I go to is large enough, so that even if it's packed, there always washers and dryers available. Their washers go from one load to six loads, and there are plenty to go around.
