I usually go short the last cut of the season. But I’m going to give it a try at around 3” this year. Will report back in the spring. If it’s to tall it’s a bear to rake, and I’ve have voles and snow mold at higher heights before.

No pro here either, but definitely by now I know what works and what doesn't.

I know NEVER to use Scott's Weed and Feed, how they still sell that stuff is beyond me. And for that matter never ever use a granular weed killer.

Time to winterize the lawn mower until spring now.

Keeping the deck set the same for an early spring cut.

I'd like to get one more mow in this year to mulch leaves but it probably won't happen. We've had high winds just about every days and I've got the leaves from the woods and the neighbors in my yard.

Leaves are long gone, especially today with winds gusting up to 55 mph.

It is hard to believe it's only near the end of February here and many of us are already getting the lawn mower tuned up and ready for that first cut.

Mine here will probably be the earliest I've ever cut it given the record warm temps.

The riding mower is set on 4 out of 5, but I’m not sure how it translates to inches. Anyway, we like it a bit shaggy.

As I mentioned before, we’re starting with the Sunday Lawn program. It’s going to simplify lawn care, I think…no calculating, measuring, or walking behind a spreader. They do not have a pre emergent in their program, so no worries about missing the timing. The fertilizer and weed killer applications are applied with a liquid spray on the hose.

The only thing that is additional is treating for fire ants. They have it, but it’s not in the standard program.
