I imagine rubbing would only help if the text is covered with dirt. Some of them are so old, they are literally eroding so the letters and numbers aren't clear and rubbing might even make it worse. Unless you mean taking A rubbing (placing paper over it and rubbing it with crayons or something)?

Be very careful with rubbings -- some places feel it's not good for the older more delicate stones.....
When the STL airport expanded, an old cemetery that did not have perpetual care was impacted and many graves were moved. I know the man who had the contract and I have been able to get several (like about 30) gravestones. He makes markers, so some are from this old cemetery when people elected to have new stones, somes are ones he made tha have mistakes or were damaged, et. I have a diverse group and several head stones that I would like to research or see if family wants them. Does anyone know where I can list them to find family?
Don't feel bad. Go to the forum you want to post in, and on the top left hand side you will see a button that says "new thread'. Click on the button and a page will come up, then you can write your post.
If you want to post in the Genealogy forum, just click on the word "Genealogy" that is in the last word of
"City-Data forums > General Forums > Genealogy" at the top in the blue box.

Interesting Find a Grave
On Ancestry I noted one of the trackers had pictures of a grave of one of my family relatives. I was thinking then it would be an idea for a service. I have some in VA and thought it would be great if I could have some one do the same there. I find this interesting and would be interested in providing this type service in Southeastern PA how can I hook up?

If you want to be a photo volunteer on FindAGrave, just sign up and then in "contributor tools", put in your zip code. You can also browse cemeteries in your area for photo requests. You can make photo requests yourself for interments already entered into FindAGrave (or enter an interment yourself, if you know it and just want a photo). But they don't have a request system for interment look ups.
Ancestry.com has a similar service - under "hire an expert" > "local photo".
Find a grave site
