Minnesota, I'll do 5 for Public and Private, by enrollment.
Public:
- University of Minnesota -Twin Cities
- St. Cloud State University
- Minnesota State University - Mankato
- University of Minnesota - Duluth
- Winona State University
Private: (not by enrollment)
- University of St. Thomas
- Hamline University
- Bethel Unversity
- St. Olaf College
- College of St. Benedict, St. John's University
I'm curious where you would list Carleton? I typically think of Carleton as the top of the list in terms of privates in MN, but was just curious that they did not make your top 5.
That's my personal, relatively uninformed, out-of-state perception (if I completed the list, I'd literally be picking two schools at random).
It is actually a great list. the 1st 3 is no doubt the top three. the next tier is made up of about 10 schools..
There is Rice, UT, A&M on top
then UH, SMU, Baylor, Tech, UT Arlington, UTSA, UT Dallas, UT El Paso, UNT. picking any seven of these to complete the top 10 would not be good.
Then There are other schools that I would put in my top ten such as: Trinity, TCU, etc

The last few years have really changed TCU's recognition level (mostly because of football).
They are now more well known across the country than SMU is. Ask someone in New Jersey if they know where Southern Methodist is... they will look at you with a blank stare. Ask someone if they have heard of TCU and you are likely to get a response about them being snubbed by the BCS system. At least they have heard of them...
The academic qualities are fairly similar-- however, SMU is nearly twice the price...
Why not put them ahead of Baylor? Baylor really isn't all that great...
TCU is certainly coming up but Baylor and SMU are already good schools

I think if I saw it on a resume, I'd wonder if it was made up...
A school's name recognition goes a long way.
lol, I didn't even touch that list. It just made me smile.
1) University of Denver
2) CU-Boulder
3) Colorado School of Mines
4) Colorado State
5) Colorado College
6) University of Colorado, Colorado Springs
7) CU-Denver
8) Northern Colorado
9) CSU-Pueblo
10) Colorado Mesa U (formerly Mesa State College until 2011)
This looks reasonable to me but I think I'd add the Air Force Academy and demote one of the institutions that you have ranked from 6-10. What do you think?
Here's my two cents:
University of Denver: rich kids, big hockey school
CU-Boulder: party school, big football school, interesting town
Colorado School of Mines: very smart engineering/science kids (see the recent Rolling Stone article)
Colorado State: party school, great town
Colorado College: smart kids, kind of liberal artsy school, unique calendar (block program, one class at a time)

Ha, yeah I totally spaced the Academy....which is funny because I swore I covered all of the schools in Colorado, even though I grew up a few miles from AFA. Based on its selectivity & reputation, it has an argument for 1st place.
After AFA, DU, Boulder, Mines, & CSU & maybe CC, it's kind of hard to rank. I'm a UCCS grad but it hardly has much of a reputation outside of CO & maybe some nearby states. There are several fast-growing, "up and coming" schools like UCCS, CSU-Pueblo & Mesa State but not many with established reputation or prestige.
Oh get over yourself. People are going to comment, why can't I. use the block feature if you do not want to see my posts instead of derailing the thread with off topic attacks.
Well, I don't want to block ALL your posts, I like most of them...just the ones where you instantly write a thesis in defense of your opinion. It wasn't an attack, more of a plea...I'll work on getting over myself though.
