Not if you're going to include PA and NY! I'm no Southerner.

I guess it could be a tie there...but Virginia was the first state
Actually Deleware was the first state, which is in the NE or Mid-Atlantic...depending on which way you look it.

Well, Virginia is really a South-Atlantic state.

The reason I have a problem with calling Virginia "Mid-Atlantic" aside from cultural and historical differences- is climate!

The Mid-Atlantic region is more like Humid-Continental with relatively longer winters but hot summers.

When I think of Mid Atlantic I think of New Jersey or Pennsylvania where the climate is more temperate and not as humid.

Virginia is a humid subtropical climate in most of the state (outside of the mountains) and borders on North Carolina.

They have Palm trees and even some Spanish Moss in the Southeast corner of Virginia. Cotton and peanuts are not "Mid Atlantic" crops and Virginia has those too, along with Kudzu.

That sure ain't Mid-Atlantic to me.

Maybe Northern Virginia is Mid-Atlantic now, but the rest is South Atlantic.

Exactly! Thats why Virginia is not Mid-Atlantic. Maryland and Deleware are Mid-Atlantic and they have both northern and southern traits.

The history of the south is not one of its strong points. In fact its the most shameful of any region.

I prefer the Northeast, the Washington DC area of the Mid Atlantic, the Chicago area of the Midwest, and the San Francisco Bay area of the West. The rest of the country (especially the rural areas) doesn't exist.

Um, the history of the South is great ! We stood up for our rights to have our independence from those evil tyrants .

Who are you to say the South has a shameful history? What about the North and how they murdered and butchered my ancestors?
