I'm from the south and I honestly don't think I've ever run into any problems because of it. My slight accent has gotten me more phone numbers than dirty looks.
The closest I've come to getting legitimate crap for being from the south was in the Bay area, but that seemed more like good-natured ribbing than anything more serious. The few comments that were less kind were from people who knew nothing about the south and had certainly never visited. After meeting the jabs head-on, I went on to have some nice conversations with people who knew far less about the region than they thought they did.
I can see that. You're a little bitter, and enjoy generalizing. How are you any different than those who stereotype the South and act cruelly to Southerners?

Where did I generalize? Not that I care. It's not like I was crying about generalizations in the first place.
Nope, I've never been ridiculed about my southern accent - at least not to my face. When I was a corporate trainer, I taught classes all over the US, and sometimes people in the class would make comments about my southern accent, but they were positive accents. I never minded it - I love having a southern accent and hope I never lose it.
I'm a Texan, and people also respond positively to that - to my face. I have no idea what they say or think otherwise, and I don't care either, as long as they're not rude to me.
I don't know. IMO Texan accents are quite pretty and... I guess educated sounding? People probably think I'm weird for saying that, but it's just what I get from it.
They find great fun in shaming and destroying the most culturally rich region in the entire country as they swarm it. You can witness this right here on these forums. I can picture the sick psychotic grins on their faces when I read many of their comments.

I've been asked stupid questions and have had people assume I'm stupid, sure. Mostly when I'm up North or out West people either wouldn't know at first so don't ask, or take an interest if they do ask.
He said "everyone hates on the south." Unless you are dumber than a stump you clearly know what he meant. It's a figure of speech. You weirdos and your nitpicking is annoying really. Nobody on earth actually believes that everybody hates the South as we all know there are plenty of sane people who do not hate the South. Now grow up.

Genuinely not trying to sound harsh, but should anyone else feel bad? That's what happens when you secede and try to create a new country while the country you left does not officially recognize any of this.
Anyone who tries to make someone feel like a fool because of their accent or state they are from are the actual fools. Fools try to berate others to make themselves feel better. They have a problem.

I like them. And I am a sucker for a southern gentleman with a Texas drawl!
