I didn't mean Kentucky. I meant the South in general, but obviously you can't read.

The levels of intolerance and ignorance that show up in threads like these never cease to amaze me.

The vitriol toward northern folks is alarming from many of the threads I read on CD, from many southerners. Yea, me thinks the only region in the USA, that is so disdainful on this kind of level to other US citizens, is more that likely the southern states. Y'all got some work to do, and some soul searching to do, in my opinion, cause notherners could care less about your accent and where you from, either do Midwesterners, and either do west coasters...only in the south, do they dislike "Yankees", and are still to be found with that civil war mentality in my opinion. One reason why I am very hesitant to live anywhere in the south, and I am a true west coast libertarian, something that does not exist in the south, imo.
As long as northerners keep moving to the South, the "Yankee" jokes won't go away and you better believe it. It'll be the same if southerners start moving to the North all of a sudden. I'm sure northerners would call them "Rebs" or wonder why they're moving up north. Historically, most southerners don't like to see their culture slip away. For better or for worse. During the Civil Rights Movement, it was the Federal Government making all the changes and forcing all the integration. When LBJ signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, he proclaimed, "Well, there goes the South." The so-called southern traditions of slavery, white supremacy, and racial segregation are a few of the examples we don't like to mention. However, one example is the southern accent. The area where I'm from in the South, the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina, the younger generations aren't speaking with the southern accent. The accent is changing, it's becoming more neutral mainly due to all these northeastern transplants living down here. Honestly, would you like to see your culture slip away like that? I love southern accents, and I hate how they've become a symbol of ignorance or racism. Growing up in Raleigh, one time I had 8 kids from New Jersey in one of my middle school classes. 8 kids! This is all new for the South, something completely different. We've always been that one region of America unaffected by outside influence for the most part. The Northeast was hit by a massive wave of immigration in the late 19th century, plenty of immigrants moved out to the Midwest, also. This didn't happen in the South. We're not used to outsiders moving to our area, which is happening now in many areas of the South. Richmond, the Hampton Roads, Raleigh/Durham, Charlotte, the SC Upstate, Atlanta, Nashville, etc.

Northerners have no issues with southerners when they move up that way, they don't place that same kind of subtle distaste in their minds, and shun them, due to them being southerners, or because of their accent. Only southerners do this, imo. Us west coasters are also very libertarian, me being a conservative Montana type of libertarian, simply don't think I would care to live anywhere in the south. I would be very hesitant about moving to any southern state, even though I realize there are good people there, and the home prices and taxes are low, which I wish the northern states had going for them as well. Southerners imo, harbor a lot more dislike for anyone outside there region of the USA, then other Americans do toward them imo. Hence the reason lots of folks are real leery about relocating to any southern state, in my opinion. People want to be accepted, and not outcasted or shunned, or made to feel uncomfortable. Change is inevitable, the whole country is going thru it, it is the way it is. Ask the Italians in Benson Hurst Brooklyn what they think about all the Russians that have moved in to their once predominantly Italian town,. Then ask folks in Missoula MT, what they think about all the Californians moving into their city. They still do not typically treat or shun folks the way southerners seem more likely to do imo. They may not like it, but they adjust and just carry on with their lives. Just my opinion and my view.

Do you really think that there are good people here? You say that and lump us all together, in my opinion.

Well I know there is, I served with many of them, but living in the south, just doesn't seem logical for this west coast libertarian, maybe Texas, but I don't think I would live anywhere else in the south.

Was that supposed to be one sentence?

Rebs? I highly doubt it, northerner's would give southerners a hell of alot more respect and acceptance then any southerner would give a northerner or a west coaster, I think everyone knows that, imo.
