Now you know I didn't say that.

But wait - more jewels from you, on this thread:

Yeah, all sweetness and light and moral superiority there, buddy. No wonder you didn't find people in the south to be all that friendly toward you. If you're as frank and honest as people you admire are, rather than "fake," I'm sure your attitudes and opinions on the south were very obvious - which would certainly evoke a pretty negative response. Or at the very least, a "fake southern response" where someone was polite to your face but actually pretty offended by you.
It seems most of the time on City-Data people start threads with their mind already made up. They're just looking for responses to justify their stereotype or misconception. It's kind of like if you're a serial killer and you think it's fun to kill people you will be looking for people to say yes it's OK. The people you killed were no good and deserved it anyway so it's OK. Don't worry about it. God will sort them out.

I am originally from MA and grew up in OH but I have lived all over the south from AL, TX, FL and KY and soon to be TN, we do have differences here in the South from the Midwest and Northeast but its not as drastic as people make it out to be. Imagine what people from the Middle East, Asia, South America and Africa have to adjust when they move from an underdeveloped country to the USA and they complain less about the differences than we do.

Yes I agree. Moving from one part of the U.S. to another part and talking about the differences is definitely splitting hairs. I saw very little difference between TX and MI. There are plenty of good people in both states.

Nah, I'm here for a few reasons. 1. School. NC's colleges are great and I'm proud to be a TarHeel. 2. It's cheaper to live here. 3. Much less traffic to deal with.

I wouldn't mind staying down here longer if I lived in Raleigh or somewhere on the coast. Heck, I'd love to live in Norfolk/VA beach and that's considered "south" too, technically.

It's not a bad place to live, it's just some of the people that make my stay here annoying. But I guess that's anywhere.

Generally as a rule of thumb if you treat people the way you want to be treated you have no problem. Everywhere you go they have some people that are not happy with their life for whatever reason and try to take it out on you but thats everywhere. I think the people in the South are a little bit more hopeful and optimistic than Northeast people in general and not as grumpy but thats just IMO.

I've found this to be true in a good percentage of threads in these forums. A lot of posters who start threads aren't actually seeking any real information or outside perspective. They just want people to agree with them, maybe collect a few sycophantic rep points, and if anyone does disagree with them... then they get blasted for it by the OP.

I don't know if that's the case with this thread. I've been avoiding it because honestly, the title of the thread really turns me off, and I don't have the time or willingness to go back and read through the whole thing. All I know is that often times when certain people say "the South will rise again", there are sinister elements to that statement.

I am sick of the people on both sides of the discussions still fighting the Civil War. That war ended 150 years ago. Damn, it is time to forget it and move on. People say that it is the southerners that are still fighting the war, but it is evident to me that the northerners here are doing the same thing. To hate a region for something that happened so many years ago is plain nuts. The south of the 1860s no longer exists. Most educated people realize this, but the ignorant continue to carry on in the same manner of hate that was there 150 years ago. I feel sorry for the people that rely on Hollywood and TV for their education.

Where is this strange land? I've certainly never been there.

Heck, the south from the 1960s doesn't exist anymore either. Honestly, I find it so ironic that the same person who keeps insisting that Southerners EN MASSE are still wishing the South had won the Civil War and hating on "yankees" is the one who keeps yelling for the North and South to separate/secede from each other, and then he goes on to call random (and definitely few and far between) southerners who say they want to secede traitors. So apparently HE can wish for southern secession without being a traitor, but no one else can.

The funny thing is, not many people on either side of the Mason Dixon line want ANY states to secede.

here is what there is a hatred of.
having others impose laws upon you that they themselves do not obey. take away your money your property and your livelihood. assault your person your women and criminalize your existence and call it freedom and justice.
as long as tyrants do this stuff there will be resentment.
our federal government is on a path to destruction as long as they do these practices to other countries and to their own people. look to the american indians they know the fall is near.
yes the south will rise again. i have never believed in human slavery and never will but the wanton criminalization of our streets must end, we want our neighborhoods back and we want our women and kids to be able to walk the streets in safety. we want our police to be be able to protect themselves and us without fear of criminal prosecution. home owners should be able to defend their homes without fear of criminal and civil law suits filed by felons.
freedom will rise again.
