Once the monsoons clear out in late September, it can get hot for a few weeks, then by October it starts to cool down pretty good. So for 4 months of the year we boil, then the rest of the year is extremely enjoyable and dry, unlike Houston's nastiness.
Houston cools off in October too. You can say summer begins sometime in May for Houston and lasts until sometime in October, 5 months give or take a few weeks. The remaining part of the year in Houston is turbulent, with warm spells followed by cool and even cold weather especially in December, January, and February. However this constant oscillation can be nice, as it provides some variety.
