The question still remains "Why did D.C. Metro not submit one formal bid from the beginning", like DFW and other metro areas?
I seriously doubt that any metro spanning at least two states submitted one formal bid.

Not sure I understand this comment. Northern VA has lower taxes than either MD or DC.

Well, There are higher taxes on the Maryland side. My mistake.

Don't know why this is repeatedly brought up as a rationale for choosing DC. Again, every industry/company known to man has some sort of regulatory interest in DC, yet DC is obviously not the hub of every single corporate HQs. The vast majority of companies, even major ones, handle their federal regulatory affairs through satellite legal offices or contracted lobbyists working remotely.

This isn't to say DC is not a top contender, but if Amazon ends up choosing DC, it won't be because it has to have direct access to the federal government.

DC has pretty exceptional public transit btw. Definitely not behind Boston, so really only leaving NY and Chicago in front of it. It also has the most rapidly expanding/ improving options for public transit than the ones you just mentioned. That should not got without being stated.
Safe? PG County is safer than Bergen and Morris Counties(who said they have to send their kids to NWK public schools)? Are you serious? And not for nothing but Metro's ridership has tanked in the last few years. So many problems with that "exceptional" system which can't run past 11pm during playoff games, unlike PATH and NJT.

PG County?? Was eliminated from contention for HQ2. Who's mentioning PG County? (which actually has the fastest growing home values in the DC area). NOVA and MoCo Maryland have some of the best public schools in the country. The vast majority of employees will be sending their children to public schools no matter where Amazon chooses. Metro is no worse than the 3rd best subway transit system in the US, no matter what you post in this thread, so we'll find out how much to Amazon when they pick.

Ridership will fully rebound in few years as the DC region has the best TOD example in the country around their still growing transit system.

Yeah most employees will send their kids to public schools. Luckily for those with children, suburbs like Montclair, Nutley, Bloomfield, the Caldwells, etc. are all within very easy commuting distance of Newark. Many of the nice suburbs have good train access through NJT to Newark as well. Then for the singles and/or young couples without kids, PATH provides 24/7 subway access to/from Jersey City, Hoboken, and Manhattan. Many of the young couples and/or singles may choose to live right in Newark as well. But who said anything about sending kids to Newark public schools? There are numerous beautiful suburbs very close to Newark with great public schools. PATH is a great subway system as well, having the second most riders per mile. It actually runs 24/7 unlike DC.

comparing the PATH/NJTransit to the DC Metro's public transportation options is laughable.

The PATH could be much better than it is now. So much ways it can grow!
