Might be a HUGE clue here...

Amazon officials have been seen in sizable numbers throughout the South Lake Union and Denny Triangle neighborhoods of Seattle. Further (more tellingly?) some have been seen hunting for places to live. Combined with the headquarters of AWS and the presence of MULTIPLE warehouses locally, plus some direct flights to...Seattle from other places, it seems like good evidence to me.

So you think that the whole second headquarters national search thing was just a big hoax? Don't those executives already live in Seattle? Why are they searching for houses in large numbers (other than upgrading/plumbing problems}? Do you think that Amazon would want to be viewed as a scammer public corporation who led on 200 plus cities? Come on, this defies common sense. If true, I would think that those cities would sue for fraud in laying out the expenses that they did in wooing Amazon, especially those on the top twenty list who laid out grand plans and wined and dined these guys.

I am pretty sure that was sarcasm

If they are making a decision its likely to me on a serious note that they had a good idea as to where heading into the process

Part of me wants to double down, but that would be cruel.

A more realistic outcome may be that a HQ2 is indeed chosen, but the numbers may end up being less than originally projected. I could entirely see HQ2 growing at a slower pace than was put forth earlier. I don't believe anyone else has offered this possibility, but I can see this as the ultimate outcome. A lot depends on a lot we simply don't know, if that makes any sense.

I actually mentioned that numerous times over on the Raleigh board in their HQ2 threads, that Amazon mentioned up to 50,000 employees (they never guaranteed that number, heck HQ1 doesn't even have that many employees!) but it could be much less, like 30,000 or even "only" 25,000.

I also talked about the rate and how slow it probably will be for them adding people to HQ2. This was all in regards to people over there freaking out like Chicken Littles over the prospect of 50,000 people and all their families moving to the Triangle on Day 1, where would they all fit/go!

It could take Amazon 20 years or more to even get to 30,000 employees at their new HQ2, if ever. There's so many variables like you mentioned, and who knows what the future will be like in 5, 10, 15 or even 20 years (will Amazon even need all those employees?) and where e-commerce/health care/the cloud will be at and what form they will be in. I think it's good to have projections, but understand that things can and will change.

50,000 does seem on the high-end when Seattle doesn’t even have that many employees. But maybe in 20 years, who knows. Asking about SATs for high school students in the area was interesting. Shall we break down the Gwinnet County Public Schools vs the Dallas Independent School District?
