We are coming down to crunch time, and just for the record, here are my top candidates, based on stuff that few believe, so I refuse to back them up with further arguments.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Boston is a sleeper herel
Amazon is already looking for 1 million sq ft of office space here, roughly the equivalent of a 45 story office tower. This is independent of the HQ sweepstakes though.
I wholeheartedly disagree with those who think DC has it in the bag. I get the argument that they are using competition to get the best deal, but they are already undertaking quite an expenditure scoping out sites across the country. I think there would be more economical ways to get a good deal than having this big beauty pageant of cities, which makes me think their minds are not, and never were, made up. I have always thought Chicago makes a compelling case and I do think it is still very much under consideration. I mean this is the second visit from Amazon reps to Chicago since the announcement. If Bezos had his mind made up on DC, why bother?
A joke on Miami being the first one dropped out of the initial 20.
Don’t forget LA. According to the poll we’re neck and neck with “other”. Evidently people can’t decide whether HQ2 is more likely to go to LA or some city not even being considered. Lol.
Amazon is yet to visit Atlanta. Expected to either be this week or in early April.
It may be an advantage to be one of the last visits when you're dealing with some serious competition from other cities.
Everyone believes the GOP/Delta flap crushed Atlanta's chances; since then there have been several announcements of tech-related or other companies relocating and expanding to Atlanta. Much ado about nothing.
