So why are jobs so low pay in the south? I notice minimum wage is same as it was in Montana 25 years ago.
Wages are generally lower, but so is the cost of living. When you look at buying power (cost of living vs. average annual income), money goes farther in the South and Midwest.
From the wind data maps I have seen anywhere on the east side of the rockies is bad for wind. I guess sucking up some humidity is in my future. I like Vermont and NH but I don't have $10k a year for just property taxes.
Yeah NH is disappointing(whole northeast is) but might be my favorite state in eastern USA at least if I was gonna stay east NH is my choice but might have to settle for somewhere in PA for way cheaper…. I personally would love to live in north Idaho or Utah someday but it’s really expensive all over west…. Even Boise is a lot now…. Arizona got insane…. Feeling stuck /: in NJ

Just curious, but when you say that, what are you referring to?
I know this is an old post but I have had exact same thought, my gf wants to move to Burlington SO BADLY but we didn’t know how expensive Vermont is… I have stayed in small town south a bit of Plattsburgh and I really like it up there, Plattsburgh itself is good to but my only worry is jobs in that part of NY…. I’m wondering if commuting to Burlington from NY across Lake Champlain is worth it/dueable/not overly time consuming…. I believe there is a ferry service from one or two towns that goes to Burlington? Can be completely wrong though.
Personally I would want to move west from NJ I like north Idaho Utah maybe Arizona in certain spots maybe western Montana but whole west is absurd with housing prices I just don’t think it’s happening…
A good friend of mine is moving to Michigan soon and I’m also considering going there to see if I like it(state seems great besides winter…)

Oh my bad, there was other post referring to high property taxes in NH/VT I really like NH but houses there are a lot and high taxes to go with it…. I think whole northeast is to expensive and winters are pretty bad going north of where I am(NJ)…

So, there are jobs available, but it may be a matter of a match between your skills/education and openings.
I have heard of people taking the ferry over, but you would have to keep time and cost in mind. https://ferries.com/
Also, cost of living in the Northeast varies and the Interior Northeast away from the coast, minus maybe a couple of areas, is more affordable. So, say you want quick access to mountains and a decent sized area, the Utica-Rome area can allow you to get to the western Adirondacks easily. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Utic...43.7100885!3e0

I appreciate all the info, I have considered outside of Syracuse and Utica-Rome but honestly I really don’t want to be in NY state I was only looking at Plattsburgh and surrounding areas to be near Burlington… I’d rather be in central or western PA over NY state.

If you are still interested in Plattsburgh, I'd say to look into it and there is a bunch of information in that thread, as well as other resources out there.
