The city, county, metro area... it's clearly defined. You divide the population in that defined area by the sq miles of that area and you get the density.
Saying I will take areas A, C, and G to calculate the average density in the area is a subjective calculation to make an area like the NE look more dense than the west.

This is why I posted the radius populations from a center point of town, for further context with the Minneapolis and Atlanta cores and what the actual tallied population totals are by actual people living in a land area. Someone else stated well it doesn't favor Atlanta because most of the population density is to the northern suburbs, but that sounds like they would prefer to cherry pick. Both cities are inland city/metros surrounded by land on all sides.
