I grew up in NJ saying "cellar" in a smalltown where people were moving from the city. I quickly learned that other people said basement. Just like water came from a tap but other people said "faucet".

If I say it fast, it sounds like ornj. If I say it slowly, it sounds like oh-rinj.

Originally from western NY. Used to say "cellar," in my old city neighborhood, but people in the suburbs had basements.

Most Okies I know, including myself, say "Oringe" with the stress on the "Or" and the J sound of the "ge" at the end of the word...It all just goes together.

For Oklahomans, said with a southwestern twang to boot.
