Not in the sense that the government recognizes them as a single MSA.

The Census Bureau embargoes their updates to the public for a couple of days, presumably so the media can get their scoops and get the information published or aired. Does the OMB do the same with their bulletins?

Some things I'm Looking out for

Will Chicago add additional Counties pushing it closer to 10 million

San Francisco San Jose become 1?

Will Nashville and Memphis add additional Counties, specifically will Nashville and Clarksville become 1 Metro and will Memphis push further into Arkansas and Mississippi

Will Mobile Alabama finally get Baldwin County

SF/San Jose merge SHOULD happen. If anything it’s returning back to the balance it used to have with most of the tech in the South Bay, but this is still a single contiguous urban unit and functions as such. Most of the broadcasting is out of San Francisco, and places like Six Flags are in the South Bay which draws people from all parts of the Bay Area and probably beyond. Heck, just the fact that it’s called the Bay Area makes it stupid to divide these places. Do I need to mention that the “San Francisco” 49ers play in Santa Clara, which currently is part of the SJ metro? Do these census people live in the places they divvy up? This one is a fantastically weird division which doesn’t actually exist for people who live there.

Please keep your paws off of Alamance County. Signed a resident of the Triad.

The Nashville MSA is already enormous for its population and its CSA already reaches from the TN borders from KY to AL. How many more counties can it add?
