I am sick of everybody badmouthing the south. I love it down here and I am from one of the most liberal places on earth ( Sweden ). But here in the south I really feel good. I love the weather, I love that people are not fake and not in such a damn hurry all the time. I think southerners should be proud of were they come from and fly the stars and bars to show it!
And get this....I am pro choice , non religious and I don't love guns.!!I just happened to love the southern culture for what it is!
And I'm sick of everybody badmouthing the North. So? Will not change anything, and we will always have people who run their mouths with either no clue or a hate for any area they are not in. Doesn't change the fact the we live where we do because that is where we feel most accepted and comfortable. For you it is the South, for me it is the North. I let the whole "North has no culture, North isn't fit for habitation. North is ...." just roll off and ignore them. Same could be said for the South. Most I have seen who really knock the South have never spent real time down there. Same for those who hate the North.
What people need to understand is that there are good places and bad in every region of the country. As much as the politically correct crowd would like you to believe it is the same all over, this is simply not the case. Every region and specific areas within a region still have their own local flavor that sets it apart from other parts of the country. This is exactly why the experiences of one person in a given area can be favorable while another's can be less than ideal.

You live in Michigan though, why wouldn't someone badmouth that state? It's like living in Jersey. Michigan's economy is horrible so expect people to think of that first when you say that you are from the beautiful state of Michigan. It really is. It's a very unique state that has beautiful landscapes. Too bad there is failed leadership all over that state which has led to the current economic doldrums Michigan is currently experiencing and has been experiencing for decades.

I'm glad you're enjoying Memphis. I've lived outside of Memphis for 19 years and I never thought there was much to this city besides crime & poverty. Then I went to college at the U of M and actually spent time in the city limits and realized that there's so much to love about Memphis.

It is a shame that people can't see past the current problems in that state when they consider Michigan. It is a beautiful state, no doubt about it.
