Theres a myth that you can see both NYC's & Philly's skyline from the top of Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, the park is in Central New Jersey and is equidistant from NYC & Philly (about 60-70 miles away from both cities downtowns).
Kingda Ka is about 450 feet tall and goes at nearly 130 miles per hour so you wouldn't get a great view of either city if you could even find them in such a short amount of time (like 2 seconds).
Another myth is that you can see Philly's tallest building (the new Comcast one) from NYC's current tallest building (the Empire State Building) on a clear day. One WTC (the Freedom Tower) will probably give better views because it's taller and further south than the Empire State Building.
They should build one of those slow observation rides there, that would be cool to see both at the same time.
Is it true that you can see NYC, and Philly from Kingda Ka?
Great Adventure is 40.4 miles from CC Philadelphia Gmaps Pedometer
And is 45.5 miles to the battery in Manhattan; I would think this is definately possible Gmaps Pedometer
maybe that is why Great Adventure is so crowded there is like 20 million people within a fifty mile radius and nearly 35 million within a 100 miles radius
Yeah, you can barely see Philly's skyline that far. Remember, Philly's skyline tall but small with mostly older buildings making up the bulk of the skyline. Philly has a small skyline with only I 95N. being the most impressive when looking from the south on northbound. If you look from any angle, other than the south, it's small and boring with Comcast being the tallest. I cancelled my Comcast service so I would no longer pay for that tower. Go Dish network!
So, I think it's incredible how there are so many obsessive Skyline Posters here on CD, but nobody is talking about how far away they can see their skyline. I grew up in an exurb of Minneapolis, and there is this one hill where you can see the skyline, mostly at night and on crisp fall evenings. --its 26 miles away-- I always thought that was cool. MPLS has a tiny skyline, so I always wondered how far other people could see, but apparently nobody has any input.

Aren't most of the posts in this very thread discussing that very thing?
It's a city of more than 100,000 people but all you see is the two church towers really, and this is from a vantage point about 13 kilometers away. It looks a bit surreal to me actually. I believe in clear weather you can see the larger tower from 50 kilometers
If you're on a hill in the Niagara Falls area, you can see far across the lake to Toronto's Canadian National Tower.
