We don't actually give them money. Nearly 90% of the "foreign aid" we give to other countries is military aid. Essentially, the US government purchases military equipment and gives that equipment to those countries. That's a two-fer that both feeds the US military industry and props up foreign government friendly to the US.
So why not fix high school? Why waste year of a young person's time and then waste four more years and billions of dollars doing what should have been done in high school?
If some kind of government program would work later, why not just do the same thing earlier...the US is already spending about $5,000 per year per student while he is in high school.
Not to mention that a lot of that money comes back because those countries are required to use it to purchase U.S. made military equipment.
Great in theory, less good in practice. Something like that would never pass constitutional muster either. I think it also would hurt the economy more than help if because a vast swatch of those 18 year olds fill out entry level jobs in the job market. All you will do now is tell them after 4 pointless years doing something they don't like they can know start entry level at the same job :-P.
I would like to see a draft to make the cost of our military cheaper. Draft college graduates first, no exemptions unless serious medical problems and those people can just pay a fine or become a teacher for five years.
