Why can't the taxpayers make some rules? How about no assistance if you test positive for drugs? If you have money for drugs, why do we have to provide food? Instead of EBT cards, let's give vouchers for vegetables, bread, cheese, butter, milk, bread, chicken and fish. Why should we be forced to purchase sodas, candy and other unhealthy foods that can lead to health issues for which we must also pay the bill?
Exactly!!!!!

I have heard that a household with children but only one parent will receive greater benefits.
Anybody know if this is true or just a myth?
If it's indeed true, is it a good thing to make it more monetarily rewarding to not have a father present?
(I did a real quick Google search on whether single parent homes receive more in assistance payments, but I couldn't find a reliable source. I'll do another search later if nobody else can provide any trustworthy looking information. BTW, please provide a link if you answer this question)
It is not whether there is one parent or not - it is the total income brought in by the adults in the household that determines the benefits. Some states are more generous.
Just go to your state's website for people that need assistance and they will give you a general idea what numbers are needed to qualify.
When I ran the food shelf, at the time steak was cheaper than hamburger so I bought a bunch of steak. People were OUTRAGED that we were handing out steak instead of hamburger. How dare these people have steak to eat.

tommy64, do you accept christmas & birthday presents? Wouldn't that be a freeloader? What about if you win the lottery? Freeloader. Win free tickets to something? Freeloader. The examples can go on & on. And by the way, do you know how many couples end up breaking up, whether they have kids or not? Is it always the woman's fault?

You're comparing exchanging personal gifts to public assistance. There is very little if any similarity.
If I win the lottery it's because I actually burned the calories to go in the store and buy a ticket. Lotteries are typically state run profit centers for revenue (ironically for gov't assistance). There is more of a business element to lotteries than the "freeloading" of social programs. I would not consider a lottery winner a "freeloader".
Indeed couples break up, and shame on them for starting familes on shaky ground. It's still a poor choice.
The woman who gets pregnant is responsible for at least half of the consequences, bottom line. Women cannot abdicate their responsibilies and not expect cause and effect to occur.
