IMO, I would never put anything past our government if it keeps them from looking like the scum they truly are even blowing up and killing American citizens. I'm not big into politics but the more I see the more I remember a movie called Wag The Dog.

I feel the same way, If govt somehow benefits, I would not put ANYTHING past them.
However I do have to give them credit for being so clever, what they have accomplished and are are setting the stage for, is really extremely effective... its something the founding fathers could have never foreseen or guarded against.
Even if the government was responsible (they’re not), what difference does it make?
Are Americans going to flee to Canada and Mexico? Immigrants going to cancel their Visa application? Illegals going to head back to their home country? No.
You’re going to stay right here in America and type on that computer about how your government is so “evil.”

Well, the proper and patriotic thing to do would be to remove such a Govt from power, but the problem is today, many people are too brainwashed to even recognize when they need to stand up and act. This was not the case in the past.
Safety/ security are being used to disguise tyranny, its very clever and very effective. Its been used in the drug war, terrorism, and lots of other things.
In the past, patriots were saying "Give me liberty or give me death", today its "Give me safety or give me death". LOL
Of course the governmnet played a part. Many specific individuals knew or they were completely stupid. All had college degrees so rule out stupid.
It was discovered in about 2005 that MANY of the Bush Appointees including high place Pentagon officials either lied about their education - or, more likely - got them from online diploma mills.
Many of these have closed up.
This was one of many major scandals that few paid attention to. What I am saying is that it certainly is possible that they are/were stupid...
"During the Bush administration, a study by the General Accounting Office found that 463 government employees had degrees from diploma mills, including a number of high-ranking government officials who had padded their resumes in order to get promoted in the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Energy, among others. Among these was Charles Abell, a decorated 26-year army man, who worked for the State Armed Services Committee under John Warner after his discharge. He then became a campaign donor for both Warner and George W. Bush"
"Amazingly, neither Abell nor the Bush administration faced any consequences for defrauding education. The Pentagon refused to allow reporters to interview Abell or the other officials revealed to have bogus degrees. They released a statement on the matter stating simply, “We don’t consider it an issue"
GW was much worse than you think....and so is Trump. Trump is, so far, coming in last among all POTUS in history among historians...but even that may not be low enough. We need to compare him to an even worse group of people....to get any accuracy.
How does this qualify as a debate, great or otherwise, exactly?
Because people actually believe 9/11 was an inside job
