Well the Patriots looked terrible yesterday against the 49'ers. They played poorly on both sides of the ball and could not execute. The game wasn't even close.
Agreed! But that has to be a great feeling for Garoppolo in front of his former employers. All reports indicate that there were "no hard feelings" but still.....
I would say Brady is feeling good about things right now.
Brady this year: 18 TDs to 4 INTs
Patriots QBs this year: 3 TDs to 11 INTs
If nothing else, he's shut up everyone who always tried to call him a "system QB".
It should be mentioned that while Brady looked off last year with the Patriots receiving group, he still helped them to a 12-4 record. Unless they win 10 straight now, they aren't matching that mark.
I would say it's been a bad look for Belichick's work as GM more so than coach. In 21 years, he's drafted and developed two successful WRs, Deion Branch and Julian Edelman. His track record at TE isn't great either, obviously with the exception of Gronkowski. I think Brady's last season in NE will be looked at differently, now that we see other QBs play with similar talent on offense.
I know some Pats fans are having trouble accepting it all. But don’t be completely delusional about this. Brady was the reason the Pats had this 20 year run.
Belichek is just a good coach who happened to be at the right place at the right time. It’s not like Belichek is having adversity for the first time, he was fired in Cleveland before.
As a Pat's fan, I agree. Belichick is a very good coach and very average GM. Brady masked a lot of Belichick's struggles to develop young talent at the skill positions.
Right now Brady is succeeding, Belichick is receding.
Agreed, but, the on-field hits will have a much greater effect on Brady, than the media 'hits' will have on Belichick. In the meantime, it's fun to watch Brady succeed with the long-suffering Bucs. In the interim, Brady might even change the Tampa Bucs culture from one that 'expects to lose', into a real, powerhouse franchise. Along these lines, Arians is great in his own right and not going anywhere soon. Also, look at the money Tampa seems willing to part with to pick-up premier players!
Belichick was always able to do more with less. Over the years he developed many average players into great ones. What plagued the Pats for years was that they did not have star receivers which meant Brady had to keep it fast and short with Gronk, Edelman and others. The Pats haven't had a deep threat since the Randy Moss days. The trouble today is that Newton holds onto the ball too long and the play reaches a level of desperation where he either has to run or make a bad throw.
Brady brought so much to the field with not only his skill and understanding of the game but his passion for it. Newton and the rest seem to lack the passion to win. The drive to be the best. The defense seems to be lacking this as well. They had a swagger last season as they dominated lesser teams with their defense but that is gone this year.
The Pats are in trouble.
Together Belichick and Brady were a powerful force. Brady has retained his passion and drive to win while Belichick is still trying to fit the pieces of this team. Covid hasn't helped but the team needs to come together and soon.
