But isn’t there a difference between KNOWING you are in the wrong body and PREFERRING to be the opposite sex? The human mind can harbor many delusions and irrational thoughts. Look at anorexics who are normal weight or underweight...they are convinced their bodies are wrong/overweight. Why is it that a three year old can pretend to be a cowgirl one day and a fireman the next and this is viewed as pretending, just a fantasy, trying roles out...but when it comes to gender, we solemnly say and accept that the three year old knows whether s/he is in the right body? How would a schizophrenic person be handled who says she or he is in the wrong body, but also harbors many other delusions that are factually wrong? Why would we discount those and put the person on meds but accept the gender preference/knowledge?
