Yes formaldehyde has been linked to cancer in lab animals, I suggest you also research what the concentration of formaldehyde the lab animals were exposed to, about 100,000 times the amount in a sheet of fabric softener.

The same basically holds true for all the other chemicals you mention. Even salt, sugar, coffee and a whole host of other commonly used and or ingested by human beings yield nasty results if enough quantities of them are taken/exposed to like the test lab animals.

I would never have put this thread on if Id have thought it would cause so much controversy, Im usually much more light hearted on forums... but saw the Green thread, and thought it was for people who would understand...

You basically are clueless as to what is causing your symptoms, frustrated that the specialists can't make a determination other than "try this, try that"...

You have made a determination that it's fabric softener by researching blogspots, other green websites and talked to friends (who I'll bet are also green) and have come to the conclusion that this product is bad for humanity. Loosing sight of the fact hundreds of thousands of people use this product on a daily basis with no ill effects.

Doesn't that tell you something? If there was something toxically wrong with this product don't you think in this lawsuit happy world there would be at a minimum of a class-action lawsuit against the manufacturers or hundreds of thousands of individual lawsuits within the past 30 years?

Don't be fooled by some of the statements made here listing the ingredients of fabric softener, pointing out how dangerous they are.

Yes they are dangerous IN HIGH ENOUGH DOSAGES which fabric softeners don't even come close to. Look around your life at the ingredients used in the products you use on a daily basis, how many of them contain chemicals that when used in high enough quantities cause illnesses and even death.

Do you have a recently built house or live in a recently built apartment complex? It could by the drywall used in the construction. It's been found that the drywall was manufactured in China and the chemicals used in the manufacturing process causes symptoms like you experience....

oh dear oh dear, Ive tried to be nice to you and make friends, sadly this isnt in your plans.. I know exactly what causes my symptoms, why are you on a Green thread when you clearly are here to destroy anything t that I try to tell you... why do you think Im on an allergy site, the biggest in the UK. as a contact support to help others.. do you think they would allow a loose cannon to give out advice to others.. I said I would leave this alone now, so have the decency to do the same.. you seem a bit trollish to me to be honest, and are feeding off my responses so I wont respond again...

Oh geez... sample size of one.... only demonstrates potential existence...
See what happens when you mix bleach and acetone
Overheat a teflon pan, and watch it make PFOA. Take a nibble of a stain stick. Drink a lot of beet juice, and then tell me how your liver functions. Eat a puffer fish. Grab a zebra fish. Grab a sea wasp. Could make a list a mile long.
There are a lot of things far worse than a simple fabric conditioner. JMHO.

Bleach and acetone make a quite nice ink eradicator. You were thinking about bleach and ammonia, I suspect.

The person is NOT clueless, YOU are clueless. People who use toxic products are being duped by the advertising industry and are suckers who are jeopardizing their health and wasting their money.

My doctor told me about fabric softeners a long time ago and so I've never used them. They smell horrible anyway. I don't even walk down the grocery store aisle where this junk is kept.

It's like moth balls--not used very often anymore because they are toxic. They cause cancer. But they're not banned either.

Use your head and think--just because something hasn't been banned --yet-- doesn't mean it's safe. Do you really think our government is totally looking out for us and has our best interests at heart? Or haven't you heard of lobbyists who influence Congress to do their bidding. Pay offs to big chemical industries?

Some people would rather wait and expose themselves and others to dangers. Wait until they read the "proof" somewhere. I think the proof is out there if you just go and read it but if that's not enough proof then at least, it's a warning to the wise.

As I've said numerous times in this thread, show me one accredited reputable scientific research paper or study that has shown fabric softener to be a toxic product.

As I've said numerous times in this thread, with fabric softener being such a toxic product you'd think some group would have filed a class action lawsuit or thousands of people would have filed lawsuits not in the least because nowhere on any fabric softener box or bottle are there toxic warning labels in over 30 (THIRTY) YEARS....

Another conspiracy, this time concerning fabric softeners of all things.

I swear, the number of conspiracies that are posted in this forum hands down beats the P&OC forum by a long shot....
