You're welcome, but you are wrong. I don't like over-the-top environmentalist that force-feed, but I do like those who sit, think, line up the proper scientific backing to a statement, and then state it with little fanfare. Don't quit your day job to become a mind-reader.

Look, I don't like NASCAR racing. It's noisy, it's dirty, it takes up air time on tv. It's a waste of people's time, fossil fuels, and a lot of money. However, I don't go to the car racing forum to tell everyone there what a waste of time car racing is.

Why not? Well, it could be for multiple reasons:

1. They don't care.
2. It's not going to be relevant to their discussions on racing in any way, and will in fact hinder communication.
3. Telling people that their opinions/hobbies are dumb is rude
4. It's really easy to come across as a douchebag when you go onto forums that you don't actually have any interest in.

I'm scratching my head trying to remember that NASCAR got a law passed that affected me. Perhaps you could enlighten the class? Also... you do realize the "douchebag" is a sexist non-pc word don't you? I'm afraid that use of it will get you kicked out of your exclusive holier-than-thou club. (Just sayin...)

Pretend that all 4 of those reasons apply to yourself.
I would try, but then I would have to pretend that you had a point.

Whoa whoa whoa.

No one in this forum is making laws. We're not trying to overthrow the government. We're getting together to talk about how to grow tomatoes and compost our leftovers. So when users come in here, telling us that all environmentalists are horrible extremists who are trying to take away your rights, it really does make you look...silly.

I guess what I'm saying is take your anger and hatred elsewhere.

Ummm...

There is a gardening forum //www.city-data.com/forum/garden/, where they really do "talk about how to grow tomatoes and compost our leftovers"

No one here promotes making laws? Oh really?

//www.city-data.com/forum/green...more-good.html

No environmentalists try to over throw the government? Oh really?

//www.city-data.com/forum/green...rists-usa.html

Environmentalists always tell the truth? Oh really?

//www.city-data.com/forum/green...-nbc-news.html

Laws in place to create a particular "environment" are not a restriction of homeowner property rights? Oh really?

"Green" living is not about growing tomatoes, any more an Amish lifestyle is all about the nifty suspenders. Green living is about having and promoting a set of values that often run in opposition to the values in other parts of society. "Green" living is more often than not promoting the big lies for ulterior motives.

If you consider the actual economics of recycling, much of it makes no sense, and in fact can use MORE resources and energy than is gained. Specifically, smaller recycling operations often are forced to stop glass recycling due to low returns. There is no shortage of sand to make glass, and it takes as much energy to remelt a pound of glass as it does a pound of sand. Recycling at home, repurposing glass jars DOES make sense in any number of ways. Good intentions and what works at home doesn't always work on a larger scale. Of course the real reason cities wanted to make recycling mandatory was that it was another method of imposing a tax and generating revenue. Get your millionaire moms to sort garbage for free and be happy to do so. Kafka and Orwell would have been proud.

The whole "the world is running out of water" lie is also a lie used to raise water rates as much as to raise awareness of the mis-uses of water. There are these big flat surfaced things called "oceans." They contain <gasp> water. The world isn't running out of water. It is more accurate to say that suburbia is in love with lawns, and growing food plants in arid areas is water intensive. Those issues can be addressed without invoking any big lie.

"Green" living has become a religion. It is the spreading insanity of it that does make me angry. I'll give an example - a relative of ours who has some disabilities was generously gifted with a cut Christmas tree a few years back. (Last tree in the lot, no new trees were harmed in the gifting, otherwise she would have refused.) She had drunk the recycling kool-aid for years and was anal in rummaging through her garbage to properly separate the types of plastics, glass, paper, batteries for hazardous waste, etc.. Anyway, she got distracted and missed the last city pickup of the Christmas trees bound for mulching. When we visited her in April, the tree was still up, dry as tinder in her apartment, and she literally COULD NOT throw it out with the garbage. She was so concerned with the proper "recycling" of that tree that she was allowing a fire hazard of major proportions to exist in her living room. Ultimately, I had to tell her that we had forested land, and I would take it in the back of our van and place it in a forest area where it could rot naturally. I had to promise not to burn it or stick it in garbage, as those were against her "green" values.

When pliable minds are warped to that extent, I do get angry. When I see people make posts suggesting that the price of gasoline should be raised to $7/gal I do get angry.

I educate. I challenge. I have the courage to say when the emperor has no clothes.

Sorry, I just died with laughter when you suggested that your libertarian garbage in any way approximated "education". Spreading lies on the internet is not exactly courageous. In fact, actively seeking out and attacking people who have different viewpoints than you on the internet is probably the most cowardly thing you can do.

Speaking of libertarian nonsense, I once recently read an article from one of your "think" tanks arguing that soil erosion doesn't exist. It was hil-arious.

Curious. Your mind-reading abilities seem to have taken an even stronger turn for the worse. I happen to be a centrist. However, since you died with laughter, your hyperbole has been outted in your own words. Nice job (and R.I.P.) .

Ah, another lie.

Any other educational nuggets you'd like to kindly bestow upon us? I mean, it's so courageous of you to whine on the internet about how stupid you think some women are for buying canvas bags or trying to get rid of Christmas trees. Please, please: We're so thirsty for your wisdom and your incredibly educational stories!

No, no, you first. You obviously have much more wisdom to impart. Living up in California heaven, you must have wonderful stories about fuzzy cute little critters all trying to recycle their poop and save the world from us hoo-mans. I love a good story.

the only thing you can help the environment, do something that can save the environment, recycle as much as you can, plant more trees and eat organic foods.
