It is really good. Ribeye steaks are cut to order. They also offer fresh fish, pork and chicken. Salad bar is a hoot with vienna sausage and smoked oysters side by side.
Peddler is a Greenville staple. Be prepared to wait if you go on Friday or Saturday. I belive it is closed on Sunday.
I'll be visiting Greenville in a few weeks and will be going out for a nice meal downtown. I'm considering High Cotton, Larkin's on the River, and Nantucket. It will be four of us, and I want a nice atmosphere conducive to conversation (and great food and service, obviously). I would prefer that it be a popular place, as one of the guests will be visiting Greenville for the first time and a good impression is imperative.
Which would you recommend? Or would you recommend something else I'm not currently considering? FYI I've been to High Cotton and enjoyed it a lot. I've never been to Larkin's but have heard good things. I haven't tried Nantucket yet either. I've heard good and bad about it thus far.

Either Nantucket or Trattoria Giorgio. With only about 12 tables, Trattoria Giorgio has impeccable service, is great for conversation and definitely leaves an impression.

So many excellent options...
Have you considered Devereaux's? Is seafood or steak a priority? (Nantucket is definitely the best overall for seafood in Greenville)
Although it is difficult to exclude any of the other great establishments downtown, my final vote is for Larkin's on the River.

I did consider Devereaux's. I have been there before and enjoyed it a lot. I'm in the mood to go somewhere else for this occasion, though.
I am really liking the idea of Nantucket for seafood. I've read more reviews online and almost everyone is extremely impressed. I'm a big fan of Rick Erwin's West End Grille so I am not surprised he has been successful with Nantucket as well.
We'll be having steaks the night before, which is another reason to do seafood for this meal. It's hard to pass up Larkin's though. I've always wanted to try it...
This has been a great reminder for me regarding the great restaurants we have downtown.

Indeed. And not just in downtown. 2 suburban places I have personally tried and really loved are Travinia on Woodruff Rd and Stella's Southern Bistro on Fairview Rd in Simpsonville.

I like Travinia a lot too.
Haven't been to Stella's Southern Bistro yet but have heard good things. It's on the want-to-try list, for sure.
