More often than not, they were closed when we drove to eat there and had separate lunch and dinner menus, which made it hard to get what I wanted during that particular meal. If they could have avoided those two issues, I bet they'd have done better business.

Does anyone ever know what happened to steak out? I know they have been gone for a long time, but does anyone know when they closed and why?

They're still up on E. North, aren't they?

Their original location in Greenville. That's the only one left.. Greenwood, Mauldin Rd, there were several in Spartanburg..

Most closed when the economy tanked if I recall.. Matter of fact.. The guy who was the franchisee in Spartanburg now owns the Inman Gun and Pawn shop. I *THINK* it was right around 07/08 when he closed his.

Steak-Out #50, 2524 East North Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29615-1404, is the only location remaining in South Carolina.

Previous locations included:
  • 410 Mauldin Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605-1323
  • 1222 Reynolds Avenue, Greenwood, South Carolina 29649-2738
  • 910 East Main Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina 29302-2148

I would assume the Mauldin Road location closed recently.

Nah.. Mauldin Rd location used to be in the old bus terminal.. Think it's now a check cashing/title loan style place. It's been gone for years(5 or more based on my memory).

I never particularly thought it was a great concept. You have to be dead on in the right area for that to work.. E North, ok, I can buy.. Mauldin Rd, though? You got Gower and that's about it.

I think the concept works better in densely populated, higher income, areas.. NoVA area, I'd think it'd do pretty good in. And it seems outside of a small handful, they don't have any locations in those type areas.

Publix in Taylors is gearing up in anticipation of more traffic now that the Bi-Lo has closed. WalMart has recently made the news because store managers don't have enough labor to effectively stock fresh produce shelves. So it is catch-can for fresh produce at Walmart.

Publix #632, Hampton Village, 2801 Wade Hampton Boulevard Suite 120, Taylors, South Carolina 29687-2758, is constantly busy. It will get busier in a good way.

I have noticed some Walmart locations like TR switched to a different system that looks like Aldi to me where its just placed in a row of crates. I have wondered if the crates are brought from a central warehouse and just dropped in taking less manpower at the store level. Doesn't look as pretty and appetizing to me as when its hand displayed under dramatic lighting like Whole Foods, Publix and Ingles. I have wondered if this will backfire on them.

I saw where the years ago closed BI-LO on Brushy Creek and Owens Rd near Eastside High was demolished recently to make way for a new housing subdivision. It was boarded up for years.
