WFIS in Fountain Inn announced the 2012 Hillcrest football season will not be on the air due to insufficient ad sales. The SC Education Lottery also pulled out as the title sponsor earlier in the week. Hillcrest football had been on the air for 36 years.

I have no connection to the school, but it's sad all the same...

This is going to sound bad, but if they start winning another station will pick them up.

Hillcrest has never won but obviously had a community that wanted to hear their Rams for 36 years. Sad...

Speaking of Hillcrest, they beat Mauldin tonight for the first time since 2007. My cousins are Hillcrest alums and I know they despise Mauldin. Go Rams!

1.) this is sad simply b/c growing up in small town ohio my high school was covered every friday night win or lose. maybe it's the changing times but i miss listening to post game coverage every friday night. good high school radio broadcasters are a breed unto their own.

2.) if hillcrest does begin to win some games consistently over the years who knows. still sad to hear this.

Having grown up in Simpsonville and graduated from Hillcrest (a long time ago) I can say this is very sad. The little WFIS, affectionally called Wofis by the locals, did a great job for years. Everyone knew the owners, the DJs and the sports announcers. Times do change.

Rub it in! I hope this is not a sign to how Mauldin intends to play this season. My son is almost dreading having to be at home games with the band!
