I was really surprised to see a huge difference in pricing on some items I noticed that I just saw the day before in the Greer store. I bought bananas @ .44c a pound - in Spartanburg they were .18c a pound. Lemons in Greer $2.99 a bag, Spart $2.55. Eggs were $1.59 in Greer, .79 in Spart. They get the same bananas as the other stores. If they can sell them for .18 - they surely can sell them in Greer for less than .44!

If the Spartanburg store is fairly new they are probably still offering really low prices to get people hooked and then they will raise the prices later. I have no proof other than I have seen other stores that seemed to do that when they were new.
If the Aldi is physically close to a Lidl, they'll keep it up.

I really wish they would consider Lidl locations for Anderson, Easley, and/or Powdersville.

The Aldi in Easley is in a terrible location - so difficult to get in and out at the redlight there that we don't shop there even though I like Aldi in general. The next closest location for us is the one near the Pleasantburg / I-85 interchange.

I just read on Forbes.com that Lidl may be slowing US expansion because of slow sales and unrelenting competition. Things may not be going as great as was expected. They are nice stores but wonder if they will shrink the format going forward.

Maybe they need to put some money in to a focus group to see why their expectations haven't been met. I would be a good person to ask, I have opinions and suggestions, many which I've mentioned previously.

One thing I hope they don't do is not build a store in Greer. I'm being selfish in wanting one of the 2 stores that I've heard mentioned to be possibly built in this area.

They have way too much "crap" in the middle aisles. Pare that down and give customers more quality food items in that space. There is a lot of room for improvement. I think what may work for them in Europe does not work here in the US. Seems they are learning....slowly.

It seems odd to me that they built an store in Greenwood with the initial locations but skipped Greer, Easley, and Anderson.

I just don't think they build another store in Greer anytime soon with the store already down on 29 in Greenville.
Anderson, Greenwood and Easley make more sense IMO with them being further out from the two Greenville stores.

At any rate sounds to me from these articles they are delaying and even canceling some future locations until they rethink strategy with new US management.

I'm surprised Walmart or Lidl/Aldi hasn't tried to drop something into the Mauldin area. Its a decent area that doesn't have a great selections of store with the exception of publix. The Bilo and Ingles are run down and Kmart is just a horrible dump of a place to every go into.

Apparently Lidl has been having some struggles and tried to do way too much too fast. Anybody been there lately? Has the new car smell wore off yet?

Last time I read they were planning on building a DC in Georgia, which meant more Upstate locations, but I don't what the current status of that is. I feel their original plan was to dot the Upstate all over, but I assume at the moment that's off the table.

I go to Aldi more because it's more convenient. They also have better prices on their almond milk. When I go to Lidl I actually don't buy that much. They do have good prices on tofu and recently started carrying some other vegan items. My son loves the frozen chicken tikka masala and their organic pizza. Other than that I buy produce and it is not worth going out of my way to get it there vs. Aldi.
