I'm with G-man430; I guess the OP got more than she asked for.

If she's even dared to keep checking this thread, I'd say yes, you should find it relatively easy to find a group of like-minded friends in Greenville. C'mon down!

Default Advice from another import

I moved from Ohio to South Carolina in the 1980’s, only because my parents retired here and I was still in school. The first year I cried pretty much nonstop. The meanness of some of the locals towards Northerners is quite shocking, even now. There is a certain element here that is very condescending towards anyone who isn’t a Southern Baptist and a Republican. Since I work for an international company surrounded by professionals, I am insulated from most of it, but I can’t escape it entirely. The decent cost of living, the good economy, warm weather, and having family nearby keep me here, but many days after an incident with a local, I go into my “I want to move to California” funk. The latest offender was a physician who asked me in a very snarkey tone if I voted for Obama, as if it were any of his business. Also, think twice about moving here as a single woman because the men here are violent. We have one of the highest rates of criminal domestic violence in the nation. Downtown Greenville is very nice, and there are some cool people in this area, but you will always have to contend with the locals and their xenophobia.

Do not expect Greenville to hold a candle to anything New England especially Boston regarding topography, culture, history and international presence. Not even close. Just know that upfront before making any final decisions. I would HIGHLY recomend a visit first. The boosterism and selective pictures tossed around these forums can be very misleading as I found out the hard way.

I'll be making a post about my experience later on when I have more time. Right now I have to catch up on some work...

I moved here in 1994 from NJ and have never had an issue. All of my immediate family moved here too, never an issue.

growth, development, these are words people use when they talk about progression, be it buildings, commerce, culture, people etc. , maybe you have never experienced development or growth as a person, but many people have.

There's no need to get nasty but thanks for proving my point.
