I check out these forums almost daily and have posted a few times. I have been looking around for an answer to my question and haven't found it yet so if it's out there and I missed it.......oops. Anyway, my husband and I are considering a move to Greenville. We plan to take a trip there in the spring and check things out. After looking at a map and reading these threads, we especially want to check out the Taylors area. I have read that Greenville has a planned trail system - how far out are the trails planned? Are there plans to take them into the Taylors area? Walking and biking is something we enjoy quite a bit. The reason I ask is that where we live right now (small town in Indiana) a trail system is being built that will go through our town and out the state park and I was hoping Greenville was doing something similar. Thanks for any info.
The City of Greenville's "Trails & Greenways" master plan (same link Art123 posted) includes recommendations for possible future connection to outlying communities, including Taylors. Since it is not in the City, it will take major effort on behalf of the citizens living over there. The City itself is really on the ball with the development of its trail system. Let's hope the County will see the need to invest and coordinate better as well.
Taylors is about my favorite neighboring community around Greenville. Good choice for starting your search.
The posts so far show that most of the trail system of Greenville is only in a planning stage. So trails probably won't be a major consideration in terms of picking Greenville, or any suburb, if what you want is a way to get downtown for events, or out of town for excursions. However, just the events available in Greenville make it a standout community, especially during the warmer months of the year. These are events that I find myself only so willing to drive to, and I live 12 miles from downtown.
What's available now, though, to a resident of Taylors? Check out Timmons Park, and Paris Mountain State Park. They both have mountain biking trails. Paris Mountain has other trails not suitable for biking but great for walks. Timmons Park has an 18 hole disc golf course. Also, Bob Jones University is a suitable biking venue because of the low traffic on weekends. When the Greenville trail plan is fully implemented, it will include connections of Timmons Park and probably Bob Jones University to the system. These are areas of Greenville closest to Taylors, so check them out when you visit Taylors and Greenville.

Beau1124 - I'm interested in how your trip went in the Spring. We are coming in the fall (from Nevada)and are also interested in the Taylors area, as well as other areas. I wondered if you would share your perception of Taylors and other areas you visited? We have never been there before, but are considering retirement and are interested in Upstate SC. Very much appreciated, thanks!
