Ur lucky I guess. I was bored a year after I moved here. Lol. Also, there's too much green. I grew up with desert and without so many bugs and mosquitos and humidity. Ugh. Although sometimes yards with grass can be nice.
to those who are complaining about this area...don't stay.
no offense to anybody wanting to relocate but there's been enough yankees that have come here. I don't blame them but it is too many and it will chisel at the Southern culture. come to visit but please don't move.
btw if you think this area isn't racist...you haven't talked to people with their guard down or inside their homes. while it may not be so blatant as violence...I have heard the n-word from people.
think there aren't racists in the Upstate? these are getting press this week. watch:
this is true but it does say something about the state I suppose. (not that these things happen every week.)
either way, there is still racism here. people do say the n-word in their own homes.
I don't recommend anybody moving here if they weren't born here because they usually hate it unless they were born and raised here.(from my experience) besides, too many people are moving here and I'm disgruntled.
I suppose you must visit the majority of people living in the Upstate and hear them using that awful language, huh? Or perhaps you only imagine they say those things because it fits conveniently into your campaign to disrespect decent people looking for a better life here. My experience with most transplants has been completely contrary to yours. Most people I know from the North really love living here. But you know it really does no good to argue about this. What happened to letting interested individuals decide for themselves instead of trying to turn them away before they even have a chance to get to know the place in person? That is the kind of common courtesy people should expect from each other.
Greenville is a welcome home or travel destination for people from all parts of the World. Folks, you are all welcome to visit and stay if you so desire, as I am sure you already know.
well some people like it but others have told me "Greenville is boring" etc.
I am sore that all these people are moving here. Here's the thing... I like the South. but when all the yankees keep moving in there won't be a South. It'll just be a geographic region, not a culture. I don't blame people for moving here for a job, etc. but where they mean to or not they poke away at southernness.
just out of my curiosity...Skyliner, are you a native?

So I assume you'd be okay if South Carolina stopped receiving all Federal Funding? What I mean is that if you consider "outsiders" unwelcome and keep calling us Yankees or whichever label you choose, then you also don't want our money, including the millions of dollars that tourism generates. Since I was born in raised in the United States and have paid taxes my whole life, I have the right to travel to and work/live anywhere I want to in this country. If the people of SC don't agree, then I propose we build a big wall around the state and stop all social security checks, medicare, welfare, federal funding for schools, and any other government programs paid for by my taxes.
I totally agree with you Frihed89. I rarely look at these message boards anymore just for that reason. When I am reading several messages in a row about Whole Foods, I have better things to do with my time in this beautiful upstate area.
Well do us all a favor and don't post on it either.

I am a first generation Greenville native. My parents moved here from Pittsburgh and St. Louis long before it was "the thing to do." In fact, growing up in Greenville was not very exciting in those days. Unless you worked at a textile plant, most young people wanted to move out rather than move in. Thankfully those days are long gone and Greenville is now an attractively vibrant place to live. I can't blame others for wanting to move here for the same reasons I eventually decided to stay. I want them to live here as well.
The South will always be the South, even after the dialect changes, though we already live in the "New South." I believe this area has been made a much greater place because of the growth in transplants from the North, not to mention the many from other parts of the country and from around the World. Life is much better overall, despite the random sprawl in certain areas. In the City, we have wonderful leaders with visionary focus who encourage and reward public support in many ways. The future of this place is being determined today and it is our job to embrace the vision and help guide it in whatever way we are able.
