Oh, thanks a lot, Elston. Now all I can think about is baked beans.

Hi Cyn......I hope my baked beans come out good; I always worry that they won't get soft..(have to be careful not to put too much molasses in them as it toughens the skins and makes it much longer to bake them soft...of course I could start with canned beans....but that wouldn't be traditional. When I was a kid.....my mom made them every Friday night put them in the oven for Saturday supper with hot dogs and brown bread and Sunday breakfast....with toast and a fried egg. We also made bean hole beans.

I offer this as a distraction to some of the more serious discussions we have here.

At our house too, Elston. The smell of beans and the Red Sox game wafted through my neighborhood every weekend.

I have been thinking about why I posted about my baking beans in a big brown and cream colored bean pot on this particular thread and whether it is "off topic". I realize that for me it is one of the connections to my deceased parents. Although they both died, more than 10 years ago.....they are still with me....in wonderful ways. When you mentioned the Red Sox game wafting through your neighborhood.....my father was instantly with me. He regularly listened to the Sox on the radio and fell asleep in his chair...lol. It was part of the rhythm of my boyhood home. The smell of Mom's beans, the soft snoring from the living room and the voice of the Boston Red Sox on the radio.

I think these warm and wonderful memories are proof that there can be Life Beyond Loss....and grief can become golden memories...that enhance rather than block life; for indeed I didn't lose my parents when they died...or my sister....or beloved dogs. I am not bereft...I am enriched and blessed with memories that I can call upon and that come to me spontaneously....brought back by a song, a fragrance or aroma, visiting a place, reading a poem or book, seeing a sea gull or watching dawn break over a lake....or simply by making a pot of beans or a bowl of potato salad.

Its not that you won't have problems ..... its that grief won't be the cause....it willl be money or never having done something you now need to do. Keep On Keeping On cyn.

Good Sunday Morning; I hope that you all have a good day. I have to go make a pot of coffee; Busy mornng for me....my DH is going over to the tennis court this morning at 9:00...I will drop him off before I go to meeting. I have to re-heat my baked beans for potluck dinner and have him put them in the back of the car, feed the dogs, get dressed for meeting and go.

Have a good day....Life Goes On
